So like nearly every other college student in the world you're broke. You don't have enough money to go to the beach with your friends or wherever that new Airbnb they are deciding to go to over spring break so you are staying at home. Or maybe you just don't want to do those things, and you just want to stay at home. Well, you're not going to work all day every day so here are ten ideas to turn staying at home into a staycation!

1. Movies

With so many great movies out right now, spring break is the perfect time to get a couple movies in. I know it is expensive, but many movie theaters have discount days or groupons for movie tickets to make movie-going a bit more affordable.

2. Tour Your Own Town

Just get out and walk around your downtown. Take pictures, find an instaworthy coffee shop and be that person, go to a museum, go to a park for a picnic, just find the little, hidden gems in your town. Just get out and look at your city with an outsiders eye.

3. Go Explore Your Local Trails

So most cities or towns have a park with trails or a good hiking spot near by. Pack a snack, a large bottle of water, and a small first aid kit. Put on some comfortable clothes and good sneakers and go explore a new trail. A gorgeous view and maybe even a waterfall or two are only a google search away.

4. Have a Spa Day

Take the overly gooey mask that you spent two dollars on at the drug store, youtube some zen music, burn that lavender candle and begin your spa day. Seriously, drag it out. Take as long as you can one day to enjoy relaxing. Take a bath, not a shower, but an actual bath. If the candle from the mask isn't in the bathroom already, pick it up *CAREFULLY*, carry it to the bathroom and just relax in a hot bath. Enjoy just being with yourself and relaxing. You deserve it. I mean after the midterms you just had...or you're going to have...you definitely deserve to chill out.

5. Try something new

Go to that restaurant you've been wanting to try or try that new trendy food that you're a little hesitant on. Or better yet, try making a new recipe that you found on Pinterest. If you have friends who are staying near you, come up with a theme or a type of cuisine and have a big potluck!

6. Vegout at Home

Take an all-day nap, catch up on a good book, or binge watch that new series you saw on one of the various movie apps that you have. Just take some time for you and do something that you can't do when school is in.

7. Explore Free Events in Town

There are so many events that towns offer that people don't pay any attention to. You know the best part about 99% of them? They are free. Let me repeat that last part for you...FREE! As in they don't cost a single dollar. But even if they do, I've never personally been to one that costs over $15 (but that is one that I only go to once a year). Plus, the events are generally pretty cool.

8. Root, Root, Root for Your Home Team

Local sports teams usually have cheap seats. Some teams have tickets that cost under $10. Even if you don't like sports, games are always a fun atmosphere. So grab a soda or a beer and a hot dog or a pretzel and enjoy!

9. Game Night

Play Cards Against Humanity, play Pictionary, play charades, play whatever game you want. If you want to go out, bowling is also a great option! Just enjoy a night with family or friends being silly and goofy. Just let loose a little.

10. Spring Cleaning

I know, in know, housework right? Think about it though. Scientifically, cleaning releases one of the happy hormones in your brain. Plus, you get to rid yourself of the five-hundred things that you've been meaning to donate for a while so do it. Get rid of it and bask in the fact that you accomplished something pretty big.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
