Some fun things to do in this Beautiful Fall Month

It's hard to believe we're already halfway through October! Fall is always that magical time of year when the leaves change, the weather gets cooler, and you can finally start wearing hoodies all the time. It's also a fun time for classic traditions. I've put together a checklist of fun fall experiences I hope you'll get to enjoy this year!

1. Indulge in pumpkin-spice everything

Pumpkin-spice is probably the most addictive substance among young women that everyone encourages. Don't just grab a pumpkin spice latte on your way to work! Also enjoy the delicious smells of the Bath and Body Works candles, pumpkin spice Lotion, pumpkin cookies, and my personal favorite, pumpkin cupcakes.

2. Eat caramel apples

One of my favorite childhood memories is eating caramel apples at fall time. Make sure to enjoy them with kids and giggle at the sticky faces they give you. They aren't easy to eat but they're worth the work for the sweetness.

3. Spend a day at Whitehouse Fruit Farms

Whitehouse is known for many good experiences. Growing up, I always loved picking fresh beautiful apples and carving pumpkins. They're also got some of the best doughnuts and fudge around. It's easy to spend hours there so take a day to stay a while!

4. Go on a hayride

Nothing says relaxing fall time like a hayride. If you wanna shake it up, you can also go on a haunted hayride with monsters. Whatever you prefer to enjoy a ride in the great outdoors!

5. Go to/throw a bonfire

Bonfires are one of the simplest get-togethers you can throw. All you need is chairs, blankets, and a fire pit. What I love about bonfires is that you're not sitting in front of a screen or going to spend the whole time on your phone. They tend to make people spend more time actually talking and bonding while enjoying the warm and beautiful flames. S'mores always make a nice touch!

6. Go to a haunted house

Haunted houses might not be for everyone, but everyone should try them at least once. You might think I'm crazy to recommend that you voluntarily go into a building with strange scary monsters, strobe lights and creepy decorations, but sometimes you have to do some crazy things to have fun. No matter the experience, it'll be a memorable one with funny stories to tell.

7. Get dressed up in costume and go out!

Halloween is one of the funnest times of the year. It's the one time when adults get to dress up like literally whatever they want, decorate their houses with fun lights and spooky critters, and adopt the funny, kooky culture for at least a few days of the year. If you haven't eaten a chocolate ear or jelly eyeball, you need to get out of your comfort zone! The art and quirkiness of Halloween is something I could enjoy year-round and I'll take any excuse to dress up like a character!

I hope you enjoy this beautiful month and enjoying trying some fun new things as well as keeping your beloved traditions going strong!

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
