During the holiday season we all know that friend- the one who refuses to listen to any festive music, who doesn't decorate, and, to put it simply, is quite kind of Grinch-y. We also all have that other friend- the one who starts listening to All I Want For Christmas is You in early October and who decorates their dorm room for the season despite the fact that they are only there for a few days during it (the friend that I PROUDLY identify as). And of course, we all have the friends of all colors and shades in the middle, so to further pursue this thought, I have assigned every different type of friend a different Christmas movie to help explain them more- what more to expect from the Christmas crazed friend?
Elf- The One Who LOVES Christmas
Of course, this one has to come first because you can't get a more perfect fit than this. The Buddy the Elf friend lives, breathes, and sleeps Christmas time, and probably can recite a significant number of lines, if not all, from this movie and others. This is the friend you can always count on to head the Secret Santa groups, have the best decorations, and be perpetually playing their favorite Christmas music.
A Christmas Story- The One With the Wishlist
"I'm asking for that for Christmas." "I was going to buy one, but I'm getting that for Christmas." "I'm going with my mom to pick out which ones I want this weekend." This is the friend you get a teeeeny bit annoyed with over the holidays, but have to enjoy the high expectations they have for themselves and for Christmas itself. The majority of the time, they rarely get everything on their list- but hey, one can dream, can't they??
Christmas Vacation- The One With the Huge Family Gatherings
It's always been a wonder to me how this friend and their family can fit so many people into their house for the holidays, but it always seems to work. Though their Christmases never seem to go exactly to plan, they are always the friend with the best stories and surrounded by the most love for Christmas, and that is always and good thing to have.
The Polar Express- The One Who is Realistic
This is the friend that enjoys the holiday, but sees it as it really is, and doesn't act as crazy about it as the Christmas crazed friend. You won't find an excess of decorations, a seasonal playlist before December 1st, or more than probably one Christmas sweater from this friend- only a plain take on the holiday. This friend tends to serve as the median of the personalities of the season.
Home Alone- The One Who Loves Christmas Food
But honestly, who can blame them? Ask this friend what they are looking forward to most about the holiday and their answer is sure to be Christmas cookies or their mom's world famous stuffing. They also have the most bomb Christmas dinners and desserts, but don't even THINK about touching their leftovers- those are sacred.
It's A Wonderful Life- The One Who Gets It
Even though it took him awhile, George Bailey finally understood the true meaning of the holiday- to be with family and friends and to spread joy and love to all- and this is the friend who does just that. They are the sweetest and most caring of the bunch, and are just so darn lovable- just as dear old George here.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas- The One With the Grudge
And of course, to round off the group, we have the one who dislikes the holiday. While they may not be nearly as bad as to steal the whole shebang (maybe they are closer to an Ebeneezer Scrooge), they definitely are the least fond of Christmas out of the rest. This is the friend who is rarely festive at all, doesn't like holiday music, and in general, dismisses Christmas. But hey, ya still gotta love 'em!
