Dining options are definitely not something that is lacking at the University of Richmond. As upperclassmen return and newbies arrive, it's important to recognize each of our fine dining establishments around campus. Especially for freshman who are curious to venture away from D-hall, let's characterize the places to eat around campus by comparing them to characters from hit television show "Friends."

1. Lou's

One could compare Lou's to beautiful and effervescent Rachel Green. With it's warm and welcoming atmosphere located in the business school, Lou's serves delicious salads, sandwiches, and soups that are equally as charming as Rachel. Lou's is also the perfect place to meet up with friends in between classes and be social, like Rachel. It's also fitting that I made this connection as Rachel and Lou's are both of my favorites, comparatively.

2. Passport

If Passport were to be any "Friends" character, it would undoubtedly be Ross. As a paleontologist, Ross is certainly the most worldly character and most invested in learning about artifacts and other cultures. Passport is the perfect place on campus to get a taste of diversity and of other parts of the world as it brings in worldwide cuisines weekly like fresh sushi and gelato. Bon Appetit!

3. The Cellar

The Cellar would be none other than the chef herself, Monica. As The Cellar is our on-campus restaurant style option, this comparison shouldn't be surprising. After Monica battled weight problems at a younger age, she took up cooking and eventually became an extremely successful chef. Her OCD can seem overbearing, but is perfect for running both the kitchen and restaurant.

4. Tyler's Grill

Always on the go and full of activity, it is easy to see why Tyler's Grill would be beloved Chandler. As arguably the goofiest and funniest character on the show, Chandler is extremely vivacious and always up for fun. When you're in a hurry on campus to get to your next activity, Tyler's is the perfect place to stop to pick up a wrap or a smoothie really quick or meet up with some other friends.

5. D-hall

The man's man himself, Joey would definitely be D-hall. With an unrivaled love for food, this struggling actor perfectly encompasses the idea of D-hall -- unlimited eating. With seemingly endless options to choose from, D-hall will never leave you feeling hungry. For Joey, unlimited buffet-style eating sounds like heaven.

6. ETC

Although not truly a dining establishment, the spirit of ETC could be compared to Phoebe. With a personality you can't quite figure out, ETC is your on-campus convenience store where you can find pretty much anything you need which mirrors Phoebe's carefree personality and somewhat random comments.

7. 8:15

This comparison can't go without mentioning. The iconic Central Perk can be compared to our very own on-campus Starbucks, which we have cleverly named 8:15 after old starting class times, which you can find in the library.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
