Numerous stories in the Bible account for the all the unbelievable acts followers of Christ did for God. Noah built an ark. Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednego withstood a fire. The Apostle Paul abandoned his old life a traveled across countries to teach the word of God. The most recent thing I've ever done for God is saying a quick prayer before falling asleep.
If you are like me, it's hard to think you will ever amount to those characters. How could I alone consider myself a follower of God if I hesitate on the idea of dropping everything and devoting my life to teaching others the life of Christ? Am I good enough? Am I doing enough? I may have gone to church every Sunday of my life and gone to a Christian camp, but is that really enough compared to those who literally put their lives on the line for Him?
We are all human with eyes and hands that are sometimes bigger than our brain. We like to see what we have done, made, created and are more proud of that than our relationship with Him within ourselves. Isn't it more satisfying to say you built a church for children in Haiti than to be proud in your confidence in God?
I know I would be more content putting on my resume to Heaven a list of all the things I did for God rather than simply writing "I believed in you". However, it isn't the incredible work you did for Him that proves you are worthy enough to spend eternity with God. As Father Mike Schmitz puts in one of his Youtube videos for Ascension Presents we're not good enough to go to Heaven and we don't have to be.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 9:2-3
Throughout the book, it is blatantly obvious God loves us no matter the size of our faith. John 3:16, Romans 5:8, John 4:19. He makes it blatantly obvious of his devotion to caring for us no matter the size of faith.
Ephesians 9:2-3 goes on to prove that it's not how waxed or polished our exteriors are. It about the nuts and bolts inside us that makes us good enough to be with him. And if we are able to affirm our faith in him then that is worth more than any number of churches you could build in a lifetime.
