his nation will remain the land of the free so long as it is the home of the brave.” –Elmer Davis

“To sit back hoping that someday, some way, someone will make things right is to go on feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat you last- but eat you he will.” –Ronald Reagan

With the presidential election rapidly approaching and the future of our nation hanging in the balance, I felt convicted to urge you to see the importance of patriotism like never before. It will not be too hard to figure out who I support in this general election, or why I feel the way I do about my candidate despite the criticism I have and will surely continue to receive for my “extremist” views. But let’s make one thing very clear. I am a patriot for my country. I love this country. But I hate what it is becoming, and I hate that there is a lack of interest or enthusiasm in politics largely among young adults. People tell me all the time that politics doesn’t really affect them. That they don’t care. The media and the public have turned this election into a reality TV show, cheapening its significance as the most crucial presidential election that has possibly ever taken place in this nation. It is not a joke, and whether you like the candidates or not, I urge you that this race is between two people, and one of them is going to be your president whether you like it or not. You have an OBLIGATION to care about politics like never before. You have an OBLIGATION as an American citizen to fight like absolute HELL for your country. Because friends, it is falling apart. It is time to face the reality that we no longer live in the great nation we once beheld and if you aren’t interested in politics, you aren’t interested in the future of you country, the future for yourselves, or the future for your children. Stop living like someone else is going to clean things up or that it will just work out eventually. I believe that we serve a mighty God and that He is ultimately in control of all situations, but I DO NOT believe He calls for people to stand idly by while things collapse at their feet. YOU are the voice of your country. YOU are the ones who determine its outcome. YOU are the ones affected by the actions of your leaders. So if you’re not interested, it’s high time you get interested. If not for your sake, for the rest of us. We have got to wake up from our first-world dream that we are invincible. That time is quickly passing us by and surely will if we continue with the mindset that it doesn’t matter. The future matters, and it comes by action in the present. Stand up and be proud and be passionate. Stand up for yourself. Stand up for your future. So stop feeding the crocodile and the lie of inactivity. Be a patriot for the land of the free, so that she can stand up for her name as the home of the brave.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
