How Has Your Christmas Wish List Changed?

How has your wish list evolved through your life, from early childhood up to your 20s?

As we age, our Christmas wish lists change dramatically. Whatever is on it that we just have to have won't be on it a few years from now, unless it's money because we all like free money. Think about all the things you wanted as a child or young adult -- do you still want them now?

When I was a kid, I would go through those huge JC Penney catalogs with a marker and circle every hot toy I wanted that year. Let's just say I had the whole catalog circle and I can bet that I was the only kid that went through the Schwann's food catalog too (LOL). Follow along, reminisce about your younger years and check out the life stages of the Christmas wish list.

1. Early childhood.

If it lights up, moves and/or makes loud noises, we wanted it! From Barbie jeeps, to toy cars, to walking, talking baby dolls and maybe even a jack in the box, we wanted it all. Getting it all was another story.

2. Pre-teens.

We were too cool for anyone because we were almost 13. We were like 11 and three quarters and knew it all. At this stage in life, I don't know about you, but my room was covered in Jessie McCartney and Taylor Lautner (pre-Twilight) posters. This year I was asking for makeup, posters and a RazR--the coolest phone around.

3. Early teens.

Finally!! I could tack the word "teen" on to the end of my age, I was basically an adult! Because I was then an adult, I needed a cool purse, lots of expensive clothes, ugg boots, of course, and a new iPhone.

4. Late teens.

We're still in close ties with the early teens wish list. However, those expensive clothes and new iPhones are bigger and better and probably even more expensive. We also started asking for dorm stuff at this age because we were getting ready to graduate and go to college.

5. Early 20s.

I am currently in this zone, and let me tell you, rent money is at the top of my list, along with a toaster and bulk sized laundry detergent. It amazes me how things change so much; three years ago I was begging for a phone and other junk I didn't need. Now I am older and focusing on necessities and priorities. This must be what being an adult feels like.

I can't speak for anyone past their early 20s as I am still experiencing it myself, but I bet if you're older you can tack on a few things that have changed over the years. What are those? Let me know so I can prepare! Regardless of your wish list, enjoy spending your time with family and don't worry about materialistic items. Those things come and go and the things you want changes with age, but loving those around you doesn't last forever and never changes.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
