Pretty much anywhere you look on social media, there's a new trending diet that everyone swears by. Some even say you can lose 10 pounds in three days. Is this really realistic? Is it safe? Why are we so caught up in thinking that skinny is healthy, when healthy is healthy? Can you imagine telling a five year old girl or boy that skinny is what you should strive for throughout your whole life? It can lead to detrimental thoughts and actions. Skinny isn't necessarily healthy, because when we think this is the only body type that is acceptable, it can have deadly consequences such as eating disorders.
Skinny isn't always healthy because you can kill yourself from pushing your body too hard trying to achieve something that you'll never be happy with.
Skinny isn't healthy when the only thing that you can feel is your bones stabbing into your bed at night, making it impossible to get comfortable enough to sleep, then how important was skipping all those meals?
Skinny isn't healthy when you're running in 80 degree weather with a sweatshirt and long leggings on trying to sweat the "fat" off you're killing the only thing that has protected you all these years.
Skinny isn't healthy when you're lying to your friends and family about what you ate at school, or what you ate when they weren't around to see.
Skinny isn't healthy when you almost pass out because your heart rate is below 50 and you can barely stand up without losing your vision.
Skinny isn't healthy when you do pass out and hit your head on something and end up needing stitches.
Skinny isn't healthy when even though you're not skinny enough for yourself, your heart is dying and you can die at any second because your organs are shutting down.
Skinny isn't healthy when you binge on food and run to the bathroom quickly after to get rid of it.
Skinny isn't healthy when you create the risk of esophageal cancer from repeated purging behaviors.
Skinny isn't healthy because there's more to life than looks.
Healthy is healthy.
Being healthy doesn't mean you should have a flat stomach or a six pack plastered beneath your skin. Healthy is when you give your body the proper nutrients, when you get your daily walk or workout in. Healthy is when you have that bowl of ice-cream you've been craving, and still see yourself as being as beautiful as you saw yourself at the gym earlier in the day.
Healthy is healthy you beautiful human!
Your body is your home, it is your palace, it protects you; so why not give it love for all the years it has protected you, and for the the years it will continue doing so?
After all, you only get one body, one life, and it's your home; don't let it crumble.
