Nurture Your Body, It Is Your Home

To all of those that play with their food at the table, I see you. I see you, using your fork to make circles around your plate at family dinners and lunch dates. I do that. I pass the time playing and pretending and always wondering if anyone notices.

I notice. I will not forget about you. That is a promise. I will watch you, not in the weird way, where someone hovers over you and your eating habits like caution tape. I mean I will watch out for you. I will remind you how unique you are when no one else does.

I used to sit at the same table as you and well, hell, I still do now. Watching everyone around you finish their meals when you have not even sipped your glass of water. Hoping no one realizes that you go to the restroom as soon as the table is cleared. Spitting up whatever you tried to swallow to see your family smile and say, "Good job honey!" I am going to tell you "good job" every day no matter if you eat, or chew and spit, or not eat all. I am going to keep reminding you that I am proud of you for making it another day. For seeing the sunrise force you to move forward every morning.

We all experience our EDOs differently. Most of us struggle with our eating patterns for certain reasons, but one that comes across for most of us is control. Control over one thing in our lives that we see results from and they may seem like positive results from us because we are seeing a change, but is it a healthy change? I know we have heard this a plethora of times, but neglecting our body from the nutrients it deserves is no good for us.

You know this. I know you know this. We sit here depriving our bodies of food and drink, doing sit-ups until our spines crack. Watching the holes in our skin become deeper when we shave our armpits — if you shave your armpits. Your body, your hair, take care of it however you choose! We practice this form of unhealthy eating habits because in the end all we want to do is love ourselves. Love the way we look in the mirror. What if we could love ourselves without harming this garden of ours.

We can! Every morning you wake up you get to decide what energy you want to bring into the world. You will not be able to bring good vibes to yourself or others until you take care of YOU. When we restrict our bodies from nutrients it begins to affect everything else. Our sleeping patterns, blood circulation, physical, and emotional energy. The more we deprive ourselves of healthy foods and drinks the more tired we become throughout the day. Then we sleep for hours and get stuck under a rain cloud of depression, beginning to forget what the warm sun feels like. I want you to feel the warm sun every morning. I want you to connect with this powerful source energy that is at your fingertips. I know you can.

I understand we all want to be in control of something and for some of us, it is our bodies. You have control of your body. Your body is your home. Your body is constantly working to keep your heart beating, your brain thinking, and most of all your living. You can choose what you replenish your body with. Take note of this. YOU HAVE CONTROL OF YOUR BODY. YOUR HOME. Fill your body with the love it deserves. Inside this magical body of yours, you have a soul that needs tending. Tend to this garden of yours. Lather your roots in self-love. Say, "I am going to eat the right amount of meals today because I deserve to feed my brain for a happy and healthy state of mind."

You are worthy of your own love. You are worthy of love from another. Show yourself the respect and worth you deserve. You are beautiful. Do you know what makes you beautiful? Your radiant smile, your kindness, your self-respect, your laugh, your resilience, all of these parts of you. All of these traits make up you, your body is just an add on to your character. All bodies are beautiful.

So f*** what social media says.

You are killing it.

You are slaying the game.

Take yourself to the beach soak up some sun because every damn body is a beach body.

It is not going to be easy but the universe never promised your journey would be easy. The universe believes you are strong enough for this journey through life and so do I. So believe in yourself. Believe you are capable of changing your eating patterns to cultivate a happier and healthier you. You are made of universal stardust so please try your hardest to nurture those galaxies within you that way your stars can radiate even more. You were born to shine. Today choose to shine with a healthy body and mind. This body, your home, your garden, deserves to flourish. Sometimes you just have to tend to your roots and water them with a little extra self-love to see your garden in full blossom. Are you ready to bloom?

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
