To My Younger Siblings As They Grow Up

Just a reminder of how proud I am of you guys!

To My Younger Siblings As They Grow Up

To My Younger Siblings,

I may not tell you guys this often but you two are the best gifts that our parents could have ever given me. Our personalities clash, but in some ways they relate with one another and we have a bond and sometimes a telepathic connection that even mom can not understand. While we bicker and argue with each other we will never allow an outsider to hurt one of us. The force that the three of us have has knocked down walls and barriers when it comes to taking on the world together and I wouldn't want to have anyone besides the two of you as my siblings.

All three of us are in awkward stages of our lives; I just graduated college and have officially entered the real world, another is taking the stage as a high school graduate and finally the third is about to take the last steps as a teenager, completing our childhood trio. I couldn't be more proud of the accomplishments that you guys have made considering the things that we have been through. The odds that were placed against us were those that were intended to knock us down but just brought us back stronger. We have fought some tough battles and have endured some hard times but the fact that we did them together is what makes our relationship unique.

I want you two to know that I will never stop loving you. I have never felt a love so strong like I do when it comes to you guys; I will move mountains, fight enemies, or even take a bullet for the both of you. My love for you guys is unconditional because you have been there in times when there was no one else around. I can not imagine making it to this step in my life if I didn't have those two annoying voices in the back of my head reminding me that I have two beautiful people looking up to me and I have to cross the finish line. Everything that I have ever done I have done for you two and I do not regret a thing.

Even though we are all grown up, I still think about the times you guys ran in my room when there was a thunder storm. When you hopped in my bed in the morning not wanting to go to school. The many car rides that we have together screaming our favorite songs to the top of our lungs. The trips to Dairy Queen after I picked you guys up from school. The hugs and kisses that we shared but mainly the love that we have for each other. I am so proud to be your big sister and I can't wait to see the impact that you guys have on this world. Always remember that even if you stumble and happen to fall I will always be there giving you my hand to help you back up. I love you guys most!

XOXO,

Your Big Sister

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
