Fellow Gen-Zers, If You Won't Vote For A Solution, You're Part Of The Problem

Stop complaining about our leaders being incompetent or "out of touch" with the people and vote for someone who is.

Fellow Gen-Zers, If You Won't Vote For A Solution, You're Part Of The Problem

We can sit around and complain all we want to, but in all reality the younger generations are the problem.

The millennials and Generation Z babies have been criticized for years for their lack of political literacy and their inability to do their civic duty and vote. Being a Gen Z kid, I know firsthand the thought process of my young compadres. Most do not believe their vote will matter, that the political system is overrun by the Baby Boomer generation.

What the younger generations do not understand is that, by voting for president, you are voting for a multitude of other offices of importance and social issues as well. For example, there are various facets that could be affected by Trump being re-elected.

In November, we are voting for who replaces Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court.

In November, we are voting for the next secretary of education.

In November, we are voting for which party gets to nominate federal judges.

In November, we are voting to decide the fate of national parks.

In November, we are voting for safe and humane immigration laws.

In November, we are voting for clean air and water.

In November, we are voting for scientists to be allowed to speak about climate change.

In November, we're voting for what a president says and does on Twitter.

In November, we are voting for housing rights.

In November, we're voting for LGBTQ people to be treated with dignity.

Let me be the first to tell you that one vote does make a difference. One vote can be the difference between your candidate's victory or defeat.

Though you may not be ecstatic about the current candidates in the race, voting for the most competent candidate IS your civic duty. We have seen what the United States looks like under poor management. Under an incompetent leader, we have been ill-prepared for a global pandemic, and he has represented everything America has sought to eradicate: hatred, racism, and inequality.

Get out and vote! If not for yourself, do it for the people around you. Understand that we deserve the most qualified, dignified, and equipped leader for our nation.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
