Colder weather is rapidly approaching, but that’s never stopped fans from braving the unforgiving elements and attending football games in less than favorable conditions, be it rain, sleet or snow. Here’s a basic survival guide to help you check off your list of game day necessities to keep you warm for all 4 quarters.
Layers, layers, layers!
You can never be too prepared for a cold weather game. If you’re questioning the amount of clothes you’re layering on, just stop and remind yourself that less is not always more. It’s better to have too many layers than not enough, right?
Hats, mittens and scarves, oh my
In addition to the layers, it’s a good idea to ditch the gloves and bring mittens instead. They’ll keep your hands warmer by keeping your fingers together rather than separated. Beanies and scarves with your team’s colors and logos are also essential.
Hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps
There’s hot chocolate. And then there’s hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps. For those of you who are 21 and up and have never had it, try it the next time you attend a snowy, 20 degree football game and thank me later.
Blankets
Bring one or two blankets, or if you’re like me, a Broncos snuggie with you. It’s nice to be the one to lend a fellow fan (or fan of the opposing team if you’re feeling really generous) a blanket if you have an extra one and they’re freezing.
Seat cushion
In between standing and jumping up and down cheering for your team, you’re gonna want to bring a seat cushion to avoid having to sit directly on the cold stadium seats.
Dry clothes for the drive home
If it’s snowing or raining, you’ll thank yourself for bringing a change of clothes for the drive home, especially if you drive an hour or more to get to the game. Nothing is as uncomfortable as sitting in the car with wet clothes.
