Being a journalism student at Rutgers-Newark has one major perk: being right across the Hudson from the concrete jungle and media frenzy hub also known as New York City. The fun of it mostly comes from attending upfronts of multiple broadcast networks, tapings of T.V. shows, watching movies come to life, and of course meeting celebrities!

An entertainment journalist focuses on, you guessed it: entertainment. T.V. shows on CBS, NBC, MTV, and FOX, just to name a few networks, air some of the most popular shows in the country. They have a launched a business that challenges the stereotypes, address controversial news topics, focuses on "rich" lives of reality stars, and feeds into the savy love stories people cannot get enough of. As an entertainment journalist it is an individual's job to get the scoop about filming, update on the personal lives of celebrities, and recap the highlights of the latest "go-to" show of the nation.

This big city is honestly what dreams are made of. As an entertainment journalist, one must learn how to commute through it using the subway, taxi, or even Uber. Sure, the subway systems are complicated, but getting the hang of it allows travel time to certain events or filming spots will save time!

Learning about events is all done through social media nowadays. The entertainment world thrives online, especially since most celebrity drama, announcement, and frenzies are blasted on multiple forms of social media. Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, etc., are great sources for filming locations or announcements, updates on what the latest celebrity hotspot is, who's in the city, and where they may be staying.

Not only is social media good for obtaining information, but to also get your article and name out!

The big city is truly a place that will blow your mind. Being able to watch T.V. shows and films being made, see celebrities in person, and have one of the world's entertainment hub neighboring your college is truly remarkable!

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
