A Letter To The Truck Driver In Nice
hellomagazine

The tragedy in Nice, France has left everyone speechless. The question on everyone’s mind is why? There are thousands of questions that remain unanswered, and millions of words unspoken. In a place of such amazing beauty it is hard to see such darkness and misunderstanding. This letter is for you Monhamed Bouhel, Driver, Nothing.

Dear Mohamed Bouhlel Driver Nothing,

You have impacted us, but we are not broken. You have taken lives from us, but that will not stop us. The road signs all said closed, can you not read signs? Swerving through the crowds like you were in a video game and the world is asking why? The only problems you were facing were a few petty crimes, why did you do this? How could you?

People have deemed you a terrorist and I’m not positive you even deserve that satisfaction.

You. Are. Nothing.

Look what you have done. Nice is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and you have single handedly filled the air with poison and the streets with grieving.

Do you see the dark cloud you have created? Are you proud? Were you proud to see people frantically running from you? One can only imagine what was racing through your mind as the wheels of horror consumed body- after- body.

What did you want to get out of this event Nothing? Did you plan to die along with all of the innocent people you hurt? Your motifs confuse me. After all of the terrible events that keep happening in the world, why did you add this to the list? Everyone knows answering violence with violence is not the answer, so why did you think it would?

We live in a world where being yourself, doing anything you want, and creating your own path is the golden ticket, so why would you take this opportunity for granted?

Let’s Toast to you Nothing. Toast to the fact that the police took your life and you could not harm anyone else. Toast to the fact that you are now suffering. Congratulations, but you did not win.

“We will not give in to the terrorist threat,” Prime Minister Manuel Valls

See that Nothing? You have not destroyed anything; you have only made us stronger.
