You know what they say - college is the best four years of your life, and ain't that the truth! College is where you meet all new people, create memories that last a life time, and you learn a lot about yourself. You're supposed to know what you want to do with the rest of your life too. Sometimes, that doesn't always work out as planned though.
It's your senior year of high school, you're graduating in a couple of months and you choose the place that you're going to spend the next four years of your life. You go into college with a plan and you decide what you're going to study. You take a couple of classes that are required for your major and you realize you hate it. You start to panic and think to yourself, "what am I going to do now that I hate my major? Will I graduate on time if I change it to something different?"
DON'T PANIC. About 80 percent of students in the United States end up changing their major at least once, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. On average, college students change their major at least three times over the course of their college career.
You're not alone in this. I'm sure plenty of your friends are going through the same thing. College is about learning what you want to do with your life. Hate your major? Change it. Still hate it? Change it again. There is nothing wrong with that. Your advisor is always there to help guide you through these tough decisions as well. You have to find out what you love to do and stick with it. After all, you're going to be doing whatever it is that you're studying for the next 30+ years of your life.
College is the place where making mistakes is OK, and changing your mind is OK. Take full advantage of these next four years. You're not a student forever. Do what you love so you love what you do at the end of your college career.
