16 Reasons Why You Should Be At ThetaFest
Elizabeth Gentry

On November 3rd, 2017, Kappa Alpha Theta at Texas A&M will be holding their event ThetaFest, a $5 fajita dinner held at the Theta house that includes entertainment, music, and a silent auction. If you haven't bought your ticket already, here are 16 reasons why we should see you at ThetaFest:

1. Fajitas. Duh.

Just thinking about enjoying a dinner with 2 fajitas, rice and beans, queso, toppings, and a dessert makes you drool…

2. Live entertainment!

As you enjoy your fajitas, you can listen to great music by Wynn Williams and David’s Room! (plus who doesn’t love a good dance party?)

3. It’s $5

College kids can’t say no to a good deal (and avoiding SBISA food).

4. Your friends will want to be there!

Many other organizations, members of the community, family and friends come to our event. Think of all the people you can meet!

5. Think of all the Insta likes

College girls don't want to miss out on a cute, social photo op

6. There will be games

THIS is the chance to prove to your friends that you’re the ultimate champion of lawn games (or if you’re not…practice before the tailgates the next day).

7. Not a rumor: there’s a salsa competition

Not only can you eat salsa, but you can COMPETE for the best salsa recipe! (Or just eat salsa…that’s my plan).

8. There’s a chance to get great prizes

The auction baskets this year are awesome.

9. The food

Yes, this deserves to be mentioned twice.

10. Thetas will be there and working hard!

We like to call our philanthropies the heartbeat behind our chapter. You’ll see all your Theta friends working ThetaFest for the kids!

11. It’s a great way to procrastinate

Obviously, you should put off your homework to enjoy a Friday night and see all of your friends and Thetas at ThetaFest!

12. You get to hang out at the Theta House

We love our big blue house, and it’s even prettier on the night of ThetaFest! There are twinkly lights, lots of brand new friends, and gorgeous decorations (that our girls have made!!). Plus, you can sit on our porch swing!!!

13. It’s for a good cause

Our local philanthropy, Scotty's House, is a child advocacy center based out of Bryan, TX. Scotty's House provides a safe environment for kids who were abused to tell their story and receive medical attention and therapy. A portion of the proceeds will also go to Theta Foundation, a scholarship fund that exists separately from the fraternity, to provide support for educational, leadership, and philanthropic programs such as our national philanthropy Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

14. DESSERTS

Tiff’s Treats and Nothing Bundt cakes will be at our event! (These companies are worth cheating on your diet for)

15. $5 fajitas with all of your friends.

Just makin’ sure you remember.

16. We want you there!

ThetaFest has the ability to change lives and bring people closer together as a meal is shared. We hope to see you at our event to help us further change the lives of children across our area!

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

In the 12 years since it went off the air, "Friends" continues to be adored by millions. The show that gave generations unrealistic expectations about love (or should I say lobsters?) and New York City apartments had a charming cast of characters that everyone could relate to at some point or another. Here are 17 times Ross, Monica, Joey, Chandler, Phoebe and Rachel accurately described life.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
