If you have any form of social media, I'm sure you've noticed at least one person casually freaking out about "Undertale" (especially if you're friends with me on Facebook). "Undertale" is an indie role-playing game where you play as a gender-ambiguous child in a striped shirt who is trapped in 'the underground,' a domain ruled by monsters. The game's controls are easy to pick up and the battle system gives you the option to spare every single monster you encounter (including boss fights). Check out the trailer below for all the hype in the world:
"Undertale" has a beautifully written storyline filled with heartbreak and happiness delivered by excellent character development. The game has many different endings, all affected by the decisions you make throughout your adventure. Another thing that "Undertale's" creator, Toby Fox, got right is the game's incredible attention to detail. I won't say much because spoilers are no fun, but there are all kinds of little easter eggs along the way, from naming your character to the final boss fight(s).
My first experience with "Undertale" began while watching a videogamedunkey video on YouTube. The way that he cut the video made the game look childish at first (as you will see during the tutorial of the game), but as the video progressed, "Undertale" became alarmingly serious and very deep. I decided to go out on a whim and buy the game so that my girlfriend and I could play it. After about an hour, we were both hooked.
One of "Undertale's" biggest strengths is its characters, who you can't help but feel connected to. Like I said before, "Undertale's" story and character development will suck you in and never let you go. My personal favorite character has to be Sans the skeleton. Sans is a lazy prankster with a love for terrible jokes, and probably the most interesting backstory. I am also terribly addicted to "Undertale's" soundtrack. I've always been a fan of 8-bit and 16-bit music, and the music in "Undertale" is definitely some of my favorite.
Well, what are you waiting for? Go play "Undertale."
