There is and has been an ongoing distaste in some music today, for example and primarily rap music, that causes a debate unto what real music is. Rappers such as Lil Yatchy, Lil Uzi Vert, Famous Dex, 21 Savage, and more get so much love on the daily from their daily music listeners obviously, but at the same time get a bunch of negative criticism from being "real rap", for the message they present, for how they look, and while its your opinion, people shouldn't be put down for enjoying this type of music. People shouldn't be looked at, nor judged, a certain way because they like this "type" of music. People enjoy it, and if it isn't "real music", then what's the incentive to keep it alive being supported from. Those who enjoy it do, from the majority of millennials to the older generations who still decide to keep up with the new artist today. And honestly I agree it should be around so long as there's someone to listen.
Music shifts. Time changes and music does as well. I wouldn't doubt if people said the same thing about artist, or musicians in general, a while back about artist such as Lil Wayne, E-40, Birdman, etc., yet now we have the same criticism being carried on towards the new age artist like Kodak Black, Desiigner, or Young Thug. Things change. People enjoy what they enjoy. Anybody's available for criticism, but for those who don't understand while these artist are relevant today, it's because they are enjoyed, otherwise they wouldn't be here to this day. Artist back then always talked about dealing, smoking, women, etc. and its nothing new. It appeals to this new generation of teens now and honestly, it feels pretty nice to get loud and ignorant a couple times a day. It releases a bit of stress for me personally and I genuinely enjoy the songs to give. It's not some algorithm that needs to put together as to why it's considered actual music these days. You don't have to get why people "listen to this junk". Just know it's widely enjoyed and fun. The beat along with the vocals create a mixture of fun lyrics and a very loud 808 and drums that make you want to bounce and just enjoy yourself. Even if they are just saying the same thing every time they rap.
That being said music is music. It's gonna change and be different. If it was the same forever it would get old and repetitive and there would be no kind of value from it. Changes in art need to made to progress. It doesn't matter if they have the same topic in every song, nor does it matter what they look like, what educational level they're on, how much money they make. It matters that they're different, and carrying on a new wave of music that people can have fun to. That doesn't mean artist (some of my favorite artist at that) like Kendrick, Childish Gambino, Chance, and more aren't just as impactful. They're just as much and they have their own way of going about it. Just do me this favor please. Let art thrive and diversify, and let music be music.
