You Might Be From the NC Mountains If...

When I talk about the mountains I’m not meaning the Rocky Mountains, I mean the Appalachian Mountains. Let me just get this out of the way it’s Appa-LATCH-uh not Appa-LAY-shuh. If you go to Appalachian State University and say that there is a strong chance that you will stick out like a sore thumb. The Appalachian mountains range from Maine all the way down to Georgia. I currently live in the Blue Ridge Mountains which is a section of the mountains that go through NC. When I talk to people from different places in the country or even the state they say I have “that ole mountain accent”, but I take that as a compliment because I’m proud of my roots. Enough about the accents and the history here are 8 “You might be from the NC Mountains if...”

1)Fall is your favorite and least favorite season.

FOOTBALL!! Is one of the best things about the fall along with bonfires, sweaters and many other things. But there are downsides. In the mountains especially where I live the weather can NEVER make up it’s mind. It could be 32 degrees in the morning and 70 degrees in the evening. Also the traffic, y’all know what I’m talking about the “leaf lookers.” Although it is very beautiful on the parkway and many other places, but sometimes you just want to get home from a long day of work or school; but no there is a guy in front of you going 13 mph in a 45 mph zone

2)You go to Mast General for everything

Mast General has stores that are outside of the mountain range such as the stores in Winston Salem, and even Columbia South Carolina. Mast originated in the mountains more specifically Valle Crucis. If you’re looking for a new flannel, eno, new camping gear, or just a glass bottle of your favorite drink then Mast is the place to go.

3)You’ve heard of Appalachian State University

If you’ve been to Boone, NC or anywhere near you’ve seen the “yellow A” of App state. Appalachian State University is not one of the biggest schools in North Carolina but it is also not the smallest. With more than 18,000 students pouring in the small town of Boone can’t keep up.

4)You’ve been to the Virginia Creeper trail

While the Virginia Creeper trail is not in North Carolina it is in the Appalachian mountains. Going through the creeper trail whether walking or riding a bike it is surely a sight to see when the leaves start changing. The Creeper trail is in Damascus, Virginia which is only an hour away from Boone.

5)You love the Biltmore House

The Biltmore house is one of the many treasures in the mountains. The Biltmore house was built in 1889 in Asheville North Carolina and is still one of the main attractions for the mountains.

6)You know someone in the Christmas tree business

And we can’t forget about one of the major commodities of the mountains. Christmas trees! The mountains are such a good place to grow Christmas trees and since Ashe, Avery, Watauga are major producers it is only fitting to put in that you know someone in the Christmas tree business.

7)You’ve been at 5,945’ Elevation

Grandfather mountain is one of the most majestic, unreal views you will ever see. Whether you paid full price or tried to climb the mountain on the trail to get in free almost everyone in the surrounding areas have visited the swinging bridge and wildlife habitat.

8)You can't find this beauty for anywhere

Although there are many downsides like traffic, one inch of snow calling off everything, leaf lookers and the weather never making up its mind; you wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. While many people leave to attend college or to follow there dreams 90% of the time if you was raised in the mountains you’ll end up coming back.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
