Now that it's time for finals, our lives are filled with dozens of people stressing about whether they're studying too much or too little, too soon or too late, too intensely or too apathetically. If, like me, you are a procrastinator, you are probably concerned about the latter of each of those pairs. In my experience, these are a few of the telltale symptoms of a big problem facing college students globally — procrastination.
1. "If I study too much now, I won't want to study later."
We're all familiar with this comforting lie we tell ourselves when we don't want to study. "If I start studying now, I will burn out and won't study enough as my exam gets closer." Netflix instead?
2. "Life is too hard to study right now."
"I am tired. I am stressed. If I give myself a break, maybe this will all be easier." Isn't it nice how we tell ourselves sweet nothings? Wouldn't it be great if they were actually true?
3. "I think I have some [insert food] that I could eat right now."
I just ate my body weight in chocolate. It's okay. Procrastination calories don't count.
4. "You know, I could be doing [laundry, exercise, cleaning, etc.] instead."
If it's productive, it's obviously not procrastination. Duh.
5. "Okay, just finished an hour of homework. Now time for Netflix."
Everyone needs some R&R now and then.
6. "I'm so tired. I should sleep and then I'll have enough energy later."
So. Tired. Can't. Think. Sleep.
7. "Treat Yo Self"
I DESERVE this break. Life is too short.
