30 Things You Know To Be True As A Typical College Student
typical college students

The transition from high-school to college or university can be minimal or can be monumental; either way, there's a few life differences that almost every college student is going to experience.

1. You're totally prepared for the first week of school...

...but once that next Monday hits, you're so over it already.

2. You go into panic mode as soon as you realize that you left your calculator in your dorm.

3. You go into an even bigger panic mode trying to figure out if you can get back on time if you sprint to your dorm and back for your calculator.

4. Wearing jeans is the equivalent of making an effort.

5. You realize that community baths aren't that terrible.

6. Freshman Fifteen is no joke.

7. You bond with fellow students over your mutual procrastination on every exam.

8. Coffee is either your best friend or your worst enemy.

9. Washing your dishes is only optional. (So is laundry).

10. You are constantly trying to find a balance between responsibility and total irresponsibility...

...just enough so you can pass your class but still enjoy yourself.

11. Putting on mascara for your 8 a.m. feels like dressing up.

12.You know how to literally make anything out of nothing.

13. Having enough money to buy anything, even a single pencil, makes you feel rich.

14. You basically function off of an all-Ramen noodle diet.

15. You know you have a problem when the barista at Starbucks knows not just your name, but your order as soon as you walk in the door.

16. You are in a constant state of exhaustion and can't remember the last time you got a full eight hours of sleep.

17. But because everyone else is also exhausted you get no sympathy...

...in fact it becomes a competition of who gets the least amount of sleep.

18. Late night Cook-Out runs are a must.

19. The library is kicking you out at 2 a.m.? No problem, just study on the bench outside as long as there's still WiFi.

20. You begin to regret every bad decision you've made once you realize that picking Netflix over Bio homework was a terrible idea...

...But would you really go back and fix it?

21. You really value all that your parents do for you once you realize just how much you have to do on your own now.

22. Phone calls to Mom become an essential.

23. You don't realize how much you miss Mom's food until you have to start buying your own...

...or the cafeteria isn't that great.

24. You make unbelievable bonds with new friends but can't help missing some of your old high-school pals.

25. You really, REALLY miss how easy that high-school algebra class was.

26. Get dressed up and go to that party or messy-bun it and watch that new season of Grey's? Hmm, decisions, decisions.

27. You treat decorating your dorm room like you're designing your new shiny house.

28. That cliche of your best friends buying you ice-cream and watching Rom-Coms whenever you and your significant other split ways becomes a reality.

29. You feel like you're mature when you go grocery shopping on your own. (Is this what adulting is like?)

30. You realize that college is amazing and terrible all in one, but you wouldn't trade anything for home.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
