You Know You're From Kernersville When...

1. You always tell people you’re from Greensboro or Winston-Salem because chances are they haven’t heard of Kernersville.

2. As a kid you either played soccer for KSA, did gymnastics for the Carolina Twisters, or cheered/played football for the Kernersville Raiders (maybe even all three).

3. Everyone you know either at some point lived in or still lives in Abington.

4. You’re super proud that our Cookout has INDOOR SEATING.

5. As a high schooler, you also know that Cookout is the place to be after football games.

6. Except for East v. Glenn games, because there’s bound to be a swarm of cops supervising the place after the huge brawl a few years ago.

7. Or just cops around there in general monitoring the occasional drug bust.

8. You weren’t really surprised when $6.5 million worth of marijuana was found in a warehouse last year.

9. The Kernersville Cinema holds a special place in your heart from your sketchy middle school days.

10. You were also a little annoyed when the ticket prices went from $3 to $4. (Ridiculous, right?)

11. No matter how old you are, the Korner’s Folly and Spring Folly will never not be fun to go to.

12. You know there is no bigger rivalry than that between East Forsyth and Glenn.

14. You also know baseball was the only sport Glenn was ever able to compete with East in.

15. Bird gang or die, am I right?

16. Dressing up for Friday night football games was the highlight of your week in high school.

17. You’re no longer shocked to see pregnancy or engagement announcements from people you went to high school with on your Facebook newsfeed.

18. You’ve spent countless hours just walking around Target because you couldn’t think of anything more fun to do.

19. And if where you live now isn't blessed with a Target (*cough* Boone *cough*) you cherish these moments now.

20. But if Target is closed, you resort to Walmart.

21. You’ve always been confused why we need a Starbucks inside of Target when there’s a Starbucks in the exact same parking lot (and across the street in Harris Teeter).

22. You like Feeney’s, but know that nothing can compete with Zack’s Frozen Yogurt.

23. You went to a birthday party at Skateworld when you were younger. (If not, you had yours there.)

24. Or Countryside Lanes.

25. You can’t go to any restaurant without knowing someone who works there.

26. Well, you can’t go anywhere without seeing someone you know.

27. You have a love/hate relationship with how small the town is.

28. But you couldn’t imagine growing up anywhere else.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
