You Know You Grew Up In Plymouth, MI If...

No matter where someone grows up there is an undeniable fact themselves and the people in their town will bond over multiple things. For some who grew up in the South they know they grew up in their city if Walmart was the Friday night hang out. For me, I grew up in Plymouth Michigan a suburb right outside of Detroit, between the D and Ann Arbor. There are 5 signs that are true if you grew up in Plymouth.

1. You know Ann Arbor Road is one of the most hated roads especially on Friday night.

It was on the news last week as one of the most dangerous roads with one of the most dangerous intersections. Ann Arbor Road and Sheldon is one of the most dangerous places to drive especially on a busy night like Friday. With Kroger and other business's being right there it is inevitable if you aren't paying attention to be in an accident.

2. You went to a High School that is bigger than some colleges.

PCEP is one of the biggest High Schools in the country with the campus having 3 schools. You were either a Rock, Chief or Wildcat. Your brother could have gone to Salem, sister Plymouth and you end up at Canton. There are three separate sports teams for each school, and one large band unified by the three schools. Friday night Homecoming weekend football games were the best especially if one school was versing the other. The crowds either consisted of Red and White (Go Chiefs!) Blue and White (Go Rocks!) or Black and Silver (Go Wildcats!) Going to PCEP meant feeling like Plymouth was a jail, after all it was designed by people who build jails. You would find Salem to be confusing the first day as a Freshman until you realize it is a large square, and you found Canton Phase three to smell like chlorine. When you went to school, you found your High School experience prepared you for the college campus lifestyle. If you stay at home and go to a Community College you may find PCEP was about equivalent to the Community College.

3. Leo's Coney Island is one of your favorite hangouts.

Leo's Coney Island is filled with waitresses that were in your classes, and food that curved every Friday night appetite before Football games. The Chicken Finger Pita is one of my favorites, the employees are always nice and friendly and if you want a to go cup they will give you one (it's the little things)

4. You are found Downtown Plymouth during the summer and festival season.

Downtown Plymouth during the summer is beautiful. Every Friday night the town is full of people young and old enjoying ice cream or the music in the park. Different bands perform on the stage and it attracts the young and old alike. The Penn Theater is a cheap date idea tickets only being $3 for a movie that is not considered old yet. The Fall festival in September, Ice Festival in Janurary and Art in the Park in the Summer brings together the community.

5. Starbucks or Panera was one of your study spots.

Starbucks and Panera are two of the most popular hang outs in Plymouth. From studying to working on a group project or having a coffee date either one is usually crowded on the weekends. During the weekdays you can find people studying at either place while enjoying a frap from Starbucks or Caesar Salad from Panera.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
