You might have noticed that growing up your family did things a bit…different...from your peers in elementary school. You would go over other people’s houses and wonder why they didn’t pray before every meal. Your friends would get annoyed when you couldn’t sleepover on Saturday nights because Sunday was (and is) “the Lord’s Day.” Sure, your childhood may not be filled with PG-13 movies before you were ready or the ability to do whatever you wanted, but you loved it nonetheless. Here are some ways you know for sure you grew up in a Christian home.
1. You owned too many WWJD bracelets to count.
2. Whit’s End: Adventures in Odyssey was your favorite radio show.
3. You went to VBS every summer.
4. …And you still have either a craft or woodworking project from your time there.
5. Your favorite song was the B-I-B-L-E
6. And your second favorite was “Father Abraham”
7. Your parents never let you sleepover on a Saturday night, because Sunday was church day.
8. You can still remember what your first Bible looked like.
9. You thought anyone who saw PG-13 movies before they were 13 was the coolest kid on the block
10. Harry Potter was considered ‘sacrilegious’ to bring to church, but your parents let you read them all at home anyways.
11. Youth Group Retreats were the highlight of the year
12. Seeing “McGee and Me” brings back all the #mems
13. The best part of Sunday School was the animal crackers
14. Most kids have the ‘sex talk’ but you had the ‘purity talk’
15. Instead of trick or treating you went to Fall Fest at your church
16. You consider your first communion to be a significant life event.
17. You met your first ‘love’ at Christian summer camp
18. Your favorite CD was WOW Hits!
19. Veggie Tales was the best thing that ever happened to you.
20. Most importantly, you had amazing God-fearing parents who taught you to love the Lord with all your heart.
Even though it sometimes seemed unfair to see my childhood friends with their limitless freedom, looking back now, I’m grateful for the restrictions my parents placed on me. I'm grateful for them forcing me to go to church when I didn't want to. I'm grateful for them showing me what it truly means to have a relationship with God. Having God in my corner since day one is something I'm incredibly grateful for, and I can't imagine my life without him. Though growing up in a Christian home may have seemed strange sometimes, it's something I wouldn’t change for the world.
