Whether it be because we have a "Michigan Accent" or because of how we talk, you can tell someone is a Michigander. Being from Michigan is a privilege that I am always willing to keep and never willing to give up. Here is how to spot someone from Michigan from a mile away!
1. We Regularly buy our groceries from Meijer or Kroger, NOT Walmart.
2. You can drive through a snowstorm, even if you are a woman.
3. Vernor’s.
4. Koegel’s.
5. You hold up your hand instead of digging out a map.
6. Anything north of Detroit is “Up North.”
7. Snowdays are a rarity.
8. We don’t have to use snow chains to drive through the snow.
9. Michigan or Michigan State? Is a life or death question that will make or break relationships, even families.
10. Everywhere you go, you can find water.
11. High School Football is a HUGE deal.
12. We start school after Labor Day because of tourism.
13. November 15th (Opening Day for Deer Season) is rarely counted as a day of school, because so many people are gone.
14. Stores sell “Native to Michigan” flavors of ice cream (Mackinac Island Fudge, Tiger Traxx).
15. You can wear a winter coat and a pair of shorts in one day.
16. It’s typical for people to hold season tickets for both the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers.
17. Our state's geographical outline is the most attractive.
18. You've replaced a tire JUST from driving down a road full of potholes.
19. The Orange Barrel should become our state's symbol because of the constant construction.
20. You know it's summer in Michigan when you smell like campfire and bug repellent.
We are proud to be Michiganders and Yoopers. We are proud to say we are from the Great Lakes State. Our food and unique shape make us who we are. Being from Michigan, isn't just a trait, it runs through our blood.
