Oh the weather outside is.. not so frightful cause we're in Florida.
If you're from Florida you understand the struggle of a warm Christmas. Everyone gets to wear ugly Christmas sweaters but here you wear ugly Christmas boardshorts. But it's not so bad, there are a few things that may not be a traditional Christmas idea but it's a tradition in Florida.
You know it's Christmas in North Florida when these things begin to pop up.
1. Sand Snowman
Instead of seeing beautiful white Frosty snowmen outside the front lawns around neighborhoods we have sand snowmen contest on our beaches!
2. Deck The Palms
Every palm tree and I mean every palm is somehow decorated come December. It's our version of a Christmas tree.
3. The Dreaded Socks & Sandals
Not only do people wear socks with sandals they get creative and wear ugly christmas socks too.
4. The Weather
While everyone is bundled up at home with hot chocolate and soup we're over here still cold in 70 degree weather but at the same time still going to the beach.
5. Santa has Surfboard Not Sleighs
Surfers begin to get creative with their outfits and bring the Christmas spirit to the waters.
6. Families Take Beach Photos in White
Every Christmas card you recieve will be of a family, sitting at the local beach, dressed in white. If you're lucky enough you'll see the pictures being taken.
7. Ugly Christmas Boardshorts, Not Sweaters
Walking arund, not only is everyone still wearing shorts but they are wearing the worst Christmas boardshorts. It doesn't get more Christmas-y than that.
8. Birds, Birds Everywhere
That diamond formation scares us. The geese fly down every winter to just decide they want to stay here in the warm weather. And it is not unusual to see traffic stopped just because a family decides to cross the road.
9. Flamingo Lights
It is exactly what it sounds like.
10. The Amazing Night of Lights in St. Augustine, Florida
Everyone knows to visit the oldest city ever to see the beautiful lights hanging from trees and walk around the historic streets for one magical night.
No matter the weather Christmas in Florida is always full of Christmas spirit, we just have a different way of celebrating.
