You have to Treat Yo Self

It's the best day of the year!

Have you ever had that moment of looking at the sea of shopping bags around you and out loud go "what the hell did I just buy?". No? Only me?. Well, as I'm sitting on the couch looking at all the bags surrounding me, I don't know if I should be happy I just purchased so many cute things or upset that I blew my entire paycheck in 3 hours. My friends and I were literally just going for a walk towards a heavily shop-able area and the next thing I know it's like I blacked out, my arm still worked and my debit card had a mind of its own. Like, did I really need that charcoal face mask that I know will probably give me a face rash but want to believe it won't? Well listen here kids, rash or not, you need to treat yourself once in a while.

If you don't watch Parks and Recreation, then maybe you haven't heard of the sacred day that Tom Haverford and Donna Meagle have deemed as "Treat Yo Self" day. It's the one day of the year, other than your birthday that's the best day of the year. On this day, the two buy anything they want without any regret or pain over their bank account balance.

So what I, and my fellow friends who spent just a little bit of cash on everything under the sun, have decided that everyone should at least give themselves this type of break every once and a while. Yes! That includes you! Whether it's buying those shoes that are so cute even though you know they're going to hurt so bad but want them desperately anyway or just buying yourself a donut. You should always treat yo self!

Listen to Tom and Donna. Or really, listen to me because I'm trying to help you out here. I'm giving you good reason to go out into the world and buy things. It's hard to get throughout the weeks sometimes. There might be a long paper you just wrote, you have class until 10pm, your day at work was bonkers, there is a presentation that's coming up and you didn't even start, or you're just tired. As college students, we shouldn't always be working, or studying. Even non-college students get this pass. EVERYONE SHOULD TREAT THEMSELVES! There's gotta be a day where you make yourself happy.

Now, I'm not saying you only have to go buy something in order to treat yo self. You can literally go outside and pet a dog. Just distress yo self and live life. You can always go cry over that 10-page paper tomorrow.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
