Tractors, cows, backroads, and familiar faces are just some characteristics that stand out when you think about a small town. There are pros and cons when it comes to living in a small area, but it's hard to forget your roots. If you grew up in a small town you know these things to be all too true.
1. Getting stuck behind a tractor is traffic
In big cities, cars are piled up bumper to bumper because everyone is trying to get to one destination at one time. In small towns, you're stuck going 5 MPH due to a tractor leading the pack. It's really aggravating, but, after a while, if it's safe enough, you are allowed to pass the tractor.
2. There are farms everywhere
When I had someone from a different country stay with me, they pointed out that there are dead animals (road kill) everywhere, and farms. One thing I love about living in a small town is driving through it and seeing lots of cows! Plus, the farms are just beautiful.
3. Your town always smells like cow manure
As I said earlier, there are cows everywhere; therefore, your town smells of cow manure. There's only one way the farmers make their crops grow, and that's from the feces of a cow.
4. Everyone knows each other
Don't do anything you wouldn't want others to find out about because in a small town, everyone knows your business.
5. Your high school graduating class was less than 100 students
You knew everyone in your graduating class as well as where they lived and who their grandma was. You also knew everyone in your school, or at least a name to a face.
6. You won't go to the grocery store without seeing someone you know
It's hard to go into the local grocery store without seeing your fourth-grade teacher, who still remembers your name.
7. You are a pro at beer/water pong
Because there was nothing else to do, all you did was play water pong and flip cup.
8. You like to go fishing, hunting, or both
And if you don't, you might have at least tried one or the other.
9. Every business is closed by 9 p.m.
You want pizza delivered at 10 p.m.? Nope. You need last minute groceries to make a late night snack? Nope. Everything around you closes super early.
10. There's nothing to do within 15-plus miles of you
The nearest shopping mall is 15 miles away, and even the big name grocery stores are pretty far. You have to drive a while before getting to somewhere where there's something to do.
11. The cops pull you over for going 5 miles over the speed limit
Since there's no big crime, they've got nothing better to do.
12. You were really involved in high school
Going to a small school, less people tried out for sports teams, so it was easier to make the team. It was easy to get involved in almost every club because you had the time for it. If you weren't involved at all, you at least had the opportunity to be.
All in all, living in a small town has its pros and cons, but it's really nice living in a small town where everyone is involved, and knows each other well.
