Sacrifice and risk are two completely different things, but they both seem to come together in the end. Sacrifice is giving up something that is important to you with the intention of getting something bigger and better. Taking a risk means to take a chance on something or someone that scares you and hope there is a positive outcome of taking that risk.
My sister introduced me to a show called "Fit to Fat to Fit" on AE network. Just by the name of the show, I was intrigued to watch and find out what the concept of the show is. The show is based on several male and female personal trainers who work with either male or female obese/overweight clients who are trying to lose weight and start living a healthy lifestyle. But the trainers realize throughout their clients process that he or she is not losing weight, and they just could not figure out why they were not getting the results he or she wanted. No matter how many crunches or burpees the trainer had their client do, nothing was giving the kick-start he or she needed in order to lose weight.
From that conclusion, the trainer decided it was not the client’s fault, it was the trainers. Now when I heard that accusation, I was shocked and confused because how can it be the trainer’s fault? It is the trainer’s responsibility to train the client and give them a meal plan, but it is the client’s duty to follow that meal plan and exercise outside of appointments, and if they failed to do that then it's their choice. However, the reason why the trainer said it is their fault was that they never got to experience what it is really like to be fat, over weight or obese. I’m thinking to myself, "you do not want to experience that at all. Your body is in a very unhealthy state, you have zero energy throughout most of your day, you are super lazy and prefer to do nothing all day other than lay on a couch and watch TV all day, and most people are not happy with their body."
On the episode I watched, a 5-year personal trainer named Corey chose to gain 60 lbs. so he could experience along with his client how hard it really is for his clients to lose weight by changing their diet and life choices. Corey was already in fantastic shape. He had tons of energy everyday, working out was a drug to him and he was living a happy and healthy life. Corey made the decision to sacrifice all his hard work to get to where he was before gaining the weight, and he is risking his own health doing this dangerous act. I admire him for being so committed to his clients and wanting them to be at their very best, but this is just crazy.
I never thought a trainer could be so committed to their clients, and I’ve been with some great trainers, but none of them compare to the ones on this show. To gain all that weight just so they can understand their client better and get them to the best shape of their life, is amazing and courageous. In the beginning, it is very, very hard of course, but the best way to do it is to make little sacrifices one by one.
For myself, changing my diet was the biggest factor in my endless weight-loss journey. It was not easy one bit to stop eating all those bad foods, stop drinking pop and to resist all those temptations, but those sacrifices I made are a few of the many things that gave me the kick start I needed to lose weight. I do not regret any of the sacrifices or risks I have taken in the past. Every single of them have made me into the woman I am today, and I am proud of that. Do not be afraid to sacrifice something important to you. Take a risk and see where they both lead you. Who knows. It might just be what you are looking for.
