There are so many arguments on the internet and so many different opinions about the importance of attending church. My goal with this article is not to argue with the immature thought that attending church is not needed, at all, it is to encourage dedication and faithfulness.
For the sake of my argument, I am going to compare sin to cancer and church to a doctor.
So, let’s say that you have just been diagnosed with cancer, just like we are born into a world of sin, therefore born with this disease. You do not notice that this disease is slowing killing you until you go to the doctor. In other words, until you attended church and learn about the faithfulness of God and realize the sin that you are partaking and living in, you do not even know you are dying.
The next step is attending to that sin. Some of us believe that our disease or sin can be too bad or too far gone. For example, someone with stage 4 breast cancer may not see a sense in treatment, just like someone may not see a sense in trying to live right because they might feel God has given up on them.
After, for those who choose to get treatment, they come back to church. There they get chemotherapy or eventually are healed by being saved and so on.
So what happens after?
After you have been saved, it is very easy to slowly drift out of church. It is easy to be saved in church, while it is all still fresh and you are still excited about living for God, but what about when reality hits?
Or maybe you have been in church your whole life and now reality has taken control and you find yourself not being completely faithful to church. You back your choices up with the excuse that you go when it is important or that you still have time.
Why is it so important to be faithful to God by attending church?
First of all, we, as Christians, should not see church as a requirement, we should view it as an honor to be able to freely worship our God. He is going to give us what we put in. If we are only faithful to Him once a week, we cannot expect Him to jump to our every whimper. He is a jealous God and the least we can do is worship Him and give Him a couple hours a week. He gave His whole life and after a Sunday morning service, we have the nerve to not think about church until a week later.
God calls to the assembling together of His people. You can stay in the world all day long and you can tell yourself that you are okay, spiritually, but until you come back “home,” you will not be. Be around positive, godly people and it will show. Be around filth, and it will show.
