Most people get excited about the fall season. To them it means colorful leaves, sweater weather, Halloween, and everything pumpkin flavored. While I love many of these things too, I don't consider myself a lover of fall. To me the season means something a little different.
While many people are anxious for the chilly days when they can wear that cute new layered outfit they bought complete with the boots, I'm wishing for the sunny days back. I am the type of person that would rather find warmth from the sun on my back rather than the clothes on it. Fall to me also means that winter is coming shortly behind it and is a scary thought for a "freeze baby" like me.
Fall means the days start to get shorter and the sun goes down sooner. Even though we get to gain that exciting extra hour to sleep in, I would much rather have my long summer days where you finish every night with a late night bonfire. Shorter days mean more time inside rather than outside enjoying the outside.
Don't get me wrong I love everything pumpkin just as much as the next person, but, just like fall flavors there are things we also associate with summer. There is really nothing like ice cream or watermelon to cool you off on a hot and accomplished day. In the fall a lot of fruits aren't in season, so they're difficult to get and even when they do become available, they don't taste as good as they do in their prime.
And finally even though I love seeing the colors of fall and the beautiful array of leaves, I know it will be short lived. Soon the leaves will be all off of the trees and we'll have those grueling days of raking them up for days on end. Once the leaves fall it also means the trees are bare, giving us no hope of life to survive the cold winter.
So even though I get excited over many of the same things others do during the fall season, it is okay not to love the season. Do not be ashamed that you don't agree with the population. To myself and others like me, fall takes on a totally different meaning.
