You Don’t Have To Go Broke To Have Fun In Green Bay

Like any bigger city, there are a lot of great things to do in Green Bay, but a lot of them cost way too much money- especially if you’re a student. Sometimes we can’t even afford Ramen, let alone going out to eat, having a fun night out, or treating yourself to a relaxing spa day. To make it easier for you to have a great time in this town without putting yourself in even more debt, I tracked down some of the best deals in Green Bay. Whether you’re looking to relax, get a delicious meal, or have fun with your friends, these deals are sure to keep you (and your wallet) happy.

  1. Massage Envy Intro Rates

Massages and facials are usually way too luxurious for a college student- but Massage Envy in Green Bay makes it way more affordable to come in. For your first massage here, you’ll be at a discounted rate of $50 for an hour. Even better yet, they are frequently having deals to get an hour and a half massage at the price of an hour. It’s a great price to splurge a little and get a relaxing massage in the middle of all those tests and assignments.

2. Star 98 Sweet Deals

Cumulus Broadcasting (the radio station that has Star 98) has weekly “sweet deals” which you can find here. They change all the time, and it’s usually a $50 coupon to a great local restaurant for the price of $25. That’s a lot of free money, and you’d be stupid not to take advantage of it!

3. Bella Salon and Spa Groupon deals

Groupon is a fantastic source of amazing coupons in any area, and here is a great Groupon for anyone who struggles with finding affordable salons. This coupon will get you a haircut, style and deep conditioning treatment (your hair will be begging for this during this dry, holiday season) all for the low price of $19. A haircut has never been so cheap.

4. Parmalee discount tickets

Another fantastic Groupon deal that’s coming up soon, and will get you and your friends out of the house and doing something fun, is the Parmalee general admission tickets for December 2. Starting at 8pm, this local country band is sure to keep you entertained all night, and it’s a super fun thing to do for only $12.

5. Discount movies playing at UWGB

Going to the movies can be ridiculously expensive, so hit up the cheap seats at UWGB instead! They have a new movie playing almost every single week, and they are actually pretty recent movies for how cheap they are. For only $2, you can see movies that aren’t even out on DVD yet, and have a great time with your friends. Their schedule of movies can be found here.

6. Subway student discounts

Businesses that have student discounts don’t like to flaunt it, so you might not have known that Subway actually gives 10% off everything to students! So the next time you’re getting a sub, remember to show them your student I.D. at the checkout and get that discount!

7. $5 Movie Thursdays

If you simply can’t wait for a movie to come out on DVD, or you just love going to the movies but you hate paying insane amounts of money to do so, plan your movie nights for either Tuesdays or Thursdays. Tuesdays are $5 movie night for everyone at Marcus locations, and Thursdays are $5 movie nights for students- plus, your I.D. will also get you a free small popcorn!

8. Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary

If you’re looking to do something fun and just get out of the house, but you don’t want to sit at a movie or go shopping, the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is the perfect option for you. You can walk around on their endless trails, or you can buy a $1 bag of corn and feed the geese and ducks. Other than the corn, it’s completely free, open 365 days a year, and it’s perfect for everyone.

It shouldn’t have to be insanely expensive to have fun in Green Bay, and with these great deals, it isn’t! Hopefully, you’re able to find some of these deals helpful, and you’ll be able to put them to great use.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
