You Don't Have To Geaux Greek In Order To Enjoy The College Experience

Disclaimer- I have lots of friends that are in Greek organizations and this is nothing against them.

You don't have to be in a Greek organization in order to have the college experience. The college experience is all about meeting new people, getting your degree, experiencing new things, and being involved. You meet new people every day because there are thousands of students on college campuses and there are hundreds of different organizations as well. You just have to find what's right for you and if it's not a Greek organization, no one will be upset with you.

On a daily basis, I see tons of Instagram and Facebook posts, as well as tweets talking about Greek life, whether it's recruitment, big-little reveal, or different events they are doing. It's all really cool that y'all do that, but it's not for everyone. What comes to mind is that the majority of Greeks are like the Jocks were in high school, popular. They are involved in all kinds of things and they have lots of friends. To me, I don't need all that to be happy in life. Any student can do the majority of the same things that Greeks can do.

Students can go to parties and drink(yes I know it's not all about the drinking), they can raise money for non-profit organizations, they can make new friends and hang out with them, they can serve the community, all the while saving hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, because they don't have to join any organization to do all that. Yes, I have joined organizations in the past where it cost money to do so, but it was only like $20 and I did the same things a Greek organization could do. I'm in organizations now where I help other people out and do community service and I love that because I have a big heart and like to help others out.

I came into college with that thought of the Greeks-Jocks similarity but I was wrong to a degree. There are still those types of people in Greek organizations that are all about themselves, their Starbucks coffee, and being "basic", but the majority of them are just the average college student that want to get involved. Now, I wouldn't join a Greek organization mainly because of the money and the possibility of being hazed. Yes, universities and colleges have implemented a no hazing policy, but it still happens.

Most Greeks that I have met have been really cool and fun to hang out with. Sometimes there're the stereotypical ones that I have mentioned that have made me really turn away from Greek life, even though there's nothing wrong with it. It's just the over obnoxious snobby ones that make me go crazy. It's like hey look at me I'm drinking Starbucks in my Greek letters shirt. They even run the majority of the university as far as students go. They get picked for all the positions in organizations, especially student government where the top 3 people are usually Greek. If you run against them in the elections you basically have no shot because it's a popularity contest. Don't feel pressure to join a Greek organization.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
