10 Reasons Why You Can't Wait to Go Home For Thanksgiving

For most people, Thanksgiving break is the first time all semester that you get to go home. Between sports, clubs, parties, and schoolwork, it’s hard to find time to get away. Thanksgiving break is probably the best break out of all of them; it's right before the stress of finals begin and right when you really start missing home. So without further ado, here are 10 reasons why you can't wait to go home for Thanksgiving.

1. No Shower Shoes!

We all know that sometimes dorm showers are not the cleanest. With 20 people sharing three showers, there’s bound to be some funky stuff growing in there and flowing down the drains. Your shower shoes are basically your lifesavers. But guess what?!? When you go home, you have a nice clean shower waiting for you. No mold in the corners, no questionable hair in the drain.

2. Your Own Bed

No matter how many layers of foam padding you put on you mattress, there’s nothing like your mattress at home. So comfortable, so heavenly; it’s like sleeping on a cloud. When you go home you somehow sleep for 12 hours, engulfed in your covers. Your parents might wonder why you insist on laying in your bed all day but they just don’t get it.

3. Alone Time

Don't get me wrong, I love socializing and being with my friends, but it is nice to get away from it all. Thanksgiving break comes at the perfect time and gives you the chance to get away and decompress from your life. And, unlike winter break, it's also not very long, so you don't have time to be bored out of your mind!

4. Your pets

If you’re a pet owner, you cannot wait to walk in that door and see your furry friend. Your family can send you as many pictures and videos as they want, but it’s nothing like seeing little Fido in person.

5. Unlimited Snacks

It’s gotten to that point in the semester that your snack stash has diminished to pretzel crumbs, one more pack of ramen, and a bag of craisins. That’s pretty depressing. But, when you walk through your front door, and run to the cabinets you’ll see all your favorites. Goldfish, Salsa, Cheez-its, Oreo’s, brownies, cupcakes, pop tarts! It’s basically Christmas morning.

6. Home-Cooked Meals

While on the topic of food, there is nothing like a home-cooked meal. If you’re like me and haven’t been home all semester, you haven’t had a home-cooked meal since mid-August. Granted, commons does a great job with their selection, but there’s nothing like a nice piece of roast beef and garlic mashed potatoes. (Dad, are you taking notes?)

7. Everyone Is Home!

Thanksgiving break is that one break that everyone is usually home because its so short. Winter break, a lot of people are on vacation and spring break is different for almost every school. But that's not the case when it comes to Thanksgiving! So whether it’s the infamous Thanksgiving eve with your friends, or even Thanksgiving Day with your family, you get to see all the people who matter most.

8. Thanksgiving

Who isn't excited for Thanksgiving? It's basically a holiday dedicated to eating! Obviously, there's more to it than that, but seriously, how much fun is it to enjoy a beautiful and delicious meal with your family and closest friends? There is nothing better than that.

9. Driving

If you're like me and don't have a car on campus, you cannot wait to get home and drive around aimlessly blasting music so loud that it should technically leave you deaf. There is nothing more relaxing than having no place to be and taking all the time in the world to get there all while singing your lungs out to some T. Swift.

10. Christmas is right around the corner

Okay people, don't come after me with pitchforks and say it's too early to be thinking about Christmas because we all know as soon as Thanksgiving is over, it's officially Christmas season! And come on, who isn't excited about Christmas?!
