Opinion: You can still have fun during the holidays if you are single

In This Article:

Oh, we all have been there. Realizing that everyone around us is in a relationship and is posting cute pictures under mistletoes or with cute Christmas lights and then getting sad and "hating" the holidays. I am on that train of scrolling through Instagram and then getting sad right after and going to watch a cheesy Christmas movie to make myself feel like a more hopeless romantic than I already am.

However, there are tons of things you can do when you are single to still get into the holiday spirit. Yeah maybe there's not going to be mistletoe kiss in there, but I know that doesn't mean you can't have a fulfilled holiday just because you are single.

So here is a list of things I do to still get the holiday experience while being single.

1. Going ice skating.

Ice skating is not a couples activity and I stand by my word on that. I love going ice skating with my friends and I love ice skating just in general. Skating always gets me in the holiday mood because it doesn't get cold enough here and the ice rink gives me my "white Christmas" mood.

2. Making holiday cookies.

What's better than food and the holidays, literally nothing. I make holiday cookies with my mom every year and it makes us so happy to get under some blankets, make some hot chocolate, and then enjoy our cookies.

3. Going to look at Christmas lights.

Pack one car with your friends, get some snacks and hit the road to look at some awesome lights. Looking at Christmas lights shouldn't be a romantic type of activity. My family and I usually do this too. This is probably one of my favorite holiday activities to do because I love seeing how creative people get in the neighborhood. So do this! It's honestly more fun with friends.

4. Getting Christmas PJs.

I think that this is a crucial holiday activity. Wearing Christmas PJs always gets me in the Christmas mood. You don't need to be matching with another person. If it's just you wearing it, then you look cooler anyway. I always get a new a pair of Christmas PJs every Christmas season and it's one of my favorite things to do.

Now, of course, this list isn't complete but these are the things that I see people typically only doing with their significant others. I don't think it matters if you are single this holiday season. I think that we all get caught up in the image that we have to have someone during the holidays when that's not at all what the holidays are about. The holidays are a time where you can have fun and be lazy with a purpose. So enjoy it!

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
