You Can Enjoy Valentines Day And Be Single

It's honestly the best day of the year.

Valentines Day is one of my favorite holidays. On par with Christmas and Halloween. Fun fact: I’ve been single every valentines day of my life (except one). I’ve never understood how people get so bitter and cynical on V-day. It’s so happy! The air smells like chocolate, everything is pink, you can literally eat candy all day and most people are extra happy. I’m lucky enough to have a squad of single girls beside me, but when one of my friends is in a relationship, it's easy to be happy for her! However, if you are someone who doesn’t love the day of love, here are some foolproof ways to make sure you enjoy your day.

1. You can celebrate your love for anyone! (not just an SO)

You might think Christmas is the best holiday for gift giving- but you’re wrong. Valentines Day is absolutely the best because there is less pressure with gifts, and you don’t have to drop a ton of money. Even if you just get a card and candy for all your baes, the act goes a long way. Just take it as an extra day to let everyone you love know you’re thinking of them.

2. Go see 50 Shades

This has been a tradition among my friend group since the first movie came out and I look forward to it every year. Yeah, the movies kind of suck but it’s still a great activity to do with your friends. If you really don’t enjoy the movie, just go to make fun of the acting and how ridiculous their relationship is.

3. Go to a nice dinner with your pals

When you’re a busy college student it’s hard to find time to eat out during the week. Valentine's day is the perfect excuse to treat yourself during the week. Eating out can be such a stress reliever because it’s like the one hour out of your day that you aren’t worried about jobs and assignments and all that jazz.

4. Eat your heart out, literally

I repeat that valentines day is the best day of the year because of the candy and sweets. Those candy hearts? Literally, the best candy out there don’t @ me. AND everything else is chocolate. Thinking about chocolate cake right now and I'm drooling. Since it’s v-day you can eat it all for breakfast, and if anyone says anything to you about, just lie and say you’re eating your feelings. They’ll probably feel bad and leave you alone.

5. Don’t spend your day on social media

I really hope that we’ve gotten past the point of couples posting sappy, annoying love posts when they’ve only been dating for two months, but I doubt we’re that lucky. That's not to say I don’t love seeing cute pictures of my friends who are in happy relationships, but we know the annoying ones. Another reason to stay off on these days is that you might find yourself feeling ~nostalgic~ and want to stalk your ex. Bad idea. The romantic feel of the day will have you thinking you’re missing them when clearly you do not.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
