You Can Criticize The President, But Not His Child

On Friday, January 20th, Donald J Trump became the 45th President of the United States. Leaving my political party affiliation out of this, I will agree that Trump has been a controversial candidate from the very start. Some things have been revealed about him that put him under fire from the media, other politicians, and a large number of US citizens in general.

While Trump is criticized constantly, as a politician and a grown man, he knows how to handle being criticized and torn apart. Just because Trump has done some things worth criticizing, this does not give anyone the right to go after his family or his children.

It came to my attention a few days ago that SNL writer Katie Rich tweeted about Donald Trumps son, Barron, who is only 10 years old.

To label any human being as a shooter is wrong in the first place, but to label the President's son - a 10-year-old boy - as a shooter is unbelievably wrong.

As I sit here and reflect on this happening, I try to think back to when I was 10 years old. At that young of an age, you are easily influenced by the words of others, and due to this influence words can deeply hurt you. If someone told me when I was 10 years old that I was going to be a "homeschool shooter", those words of negativity and criticism would stick with me for the rest of my life.

As a citizen of the US, you are free to say whatever you'd like and speak your opinions, thanks to the first amendment. But, just because we have the right to free speech does not mean we have the right to tear apart and make fun of a child.

Just because his father, the President of our country might I add, has done, said, or decided some things you may not agree with, gives you no right to attack his child, a 10-year-old boy.

Thankfully, SNL has suspended Katie Rich for the comment she made about Barron Trump. Hopefully, this suspension forces her to realize the depth and intensity of the comment she made about a young boy who should never be the victim of a verbal attack that malicious.

You can attack the President all you want - if you don't agree with his views, you have the right to speak up against them and voice your opinion. But if his children have done nothing to offend you, it is wrong to attack a child for simply being the son of someone you may not like.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
