I'm sure we've all heard the same comments regarding the 2016 Presidential Election. "I hate Trump so I'm voting for Hillary." "Well, I don't like Bernie, so I feel like Trump is my only option." "I'm never voting for Clinton. I don't like Trump, but I don't have anyone else to vote for."
Obviously, we know the names that have been in the limelight, lately. Trump, Hillary and Bernie. Hillary and Bernie are currently fighting for the position of Democratic candidate while Trump reigns as the lone presidential choice of the GOP (Grand Old Party, in case anyone was wondering what that actually stands for). As we are facing one of the most dramatic elections that I can personally remember, many voters are left wondering if they even really like the candidates left standing. Alongside many strong and supportive opinions of each potential president, many of us are left wondering if we should even vote. Especially since a lot of people, myself included, feel like they will be voting against another person instead of voting for a candidate they truly believe in.
Fear not! While the president is generally chosen from either the Republican or the Democratic party, remember that there are more choices if you dig a little deeper and decide that you simply are unsatisfied with the options that make it to the mainstream media.
Most notably, the other parties that do exist in the presidential election are the Libertarian Party, the Independent Party, the Green Party and the Constitution Party. While most of these parties are in the process of choosing their representatives, it never hurts to do a bit of research to possibly find a candidate that you can resonate with. And, who knows? With so much dissatisfaction regarding the current election, there is always that chance that a third party candidate could become the next President of the United States.
Remember that you are not out of options and that the media does not have to shape how you see the candidates and their abilities to possibly lead the country. Watch the debates. Do the research. Form an opinion. Many people fall near the middle between conservatism and liberalism and it is okay to steer away from the two-party system of voting.
Whether you choose to vote for Trump, Hillary, Bernie or a Third Party candidate, the important thing is that you make your voice heard. People fought for the right to vote and we cannot let this election tarnish that right.
