Dear My Blessing of a Teacher,

I would like to say a few things to you. First of all, thank you for never giving up on me even when I was failing. Thank you for constantly pushing me to be the absolute best that I could possibly be. For always encouraging me, even through those days that felt like they were never going to end. Your constant sarcasm is a trait of your character that I enjoy so much. You never cease to make me smile on a daily basis.

Whether it be me leaving the school early in the morning for a school trip, walking by your classroom during my lunch, or driving past the school some days as late as 6:00 p.m. and still seeing your truck in the parking lot. It is in those times that my eyes are opened to how truly amazing you are. Your drive to make us better and to inspire us to be the absolute best student that we can be. You are one teacher that I will be eternally grateful for.

I thank you for letting me be apart of your personal life. Most teachers only pay attention to students inside school hours, 8:10-3:10. You on the other hand, make sure that at all times I am being successful. It might be that I was gone one day for a speech contest, or maybe I was even sick. You have such a nurturing side to you, that you always feel the need to make sure that your students are taken care of.

Even though, you may be a tad bit on the crazy side (You know that we wouldn't want you any other way), you have found a special place in my heart. You are one person that I know I can count on to be there for me when I need someone to talk to, when I need some encouragement, and I can't exclude the fact that even at 10:00 at night, you help me with algebra II (many times when you have things of your own that you could be doing).

I would like you to know that your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed. As students, we may not always be the most cooperative. The quiet little mice that you would like us to be on certain days. We may not all finish every homework problem that you give us. Even if there weren't that many. BUT! We still love you. We still value who you are as a teacher. A person. And as a sister in Christ.

You have played a huge role in my life. If it weren't for you, math would have always been a subject that I would hate after my math class last year. Now, after spending so much time around you, I have found that solving puzzles is just as fun as getting up and speaking in front of hundreds of people if only I am prepared. I thank you for making sure that I am prepared and that I have the ability to reach into my brain and pull out old information in order to solve that tricky world problem, or that multi-step problem.

Needless to say... You are totally rad. You are such a blessing in my life, and the lives of those around you. Even if you don't always get that vibe from us. You. Are. Excellent. You. Are. Amazing. You. Are. A. Blessing.

There are not enough words in the English language to show my gratitude toward you.Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. That is all that I can say.

Love,

A student whose life you changed for the better

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
