You Can Always Change The World

Despite What Everyone Else Tells You

You Can Always Change The World
Blue Caravan Blog

I am so tired of hearing the sad words that no one feels that they can change the world we are living in. Poverty is stuck as poverty, how we view men and women will never change, war is always going to continue, and mean people are always going to be mean.

It seems as if the people who were supposed to change the world have given up! They have let this cold, dark, and depressed world consume them into nothing--they have let the world win. As the world just gets curler, this is understandable. I mean, who wants to stand up for what they believe in when millions of people are telling them no, or to stop? Who wants to share their voice when they know someone will tell them that they will regret it later, or that they're wrong? Those who were supposed to change the world are becoming hopeless because no one will listen to their words as no one seems to want to give anyone a chance anymore.

But I am here to tell you not to give up. There are people out there listening to you, and supporting you and hoping your voice will be loud enough one day to start an Earthquake of change. If you want to change the world or some aspect of it, you can as long as you never give up.

J.K. Rowling probably wanted to give up a million times when her story was shot down by editor after editor, but could you imagine if she did? My childhood, my late night movies with my dad, and some of my best friends could not have existed without her books. I would not have had anywhere to escape to when I was the one who felt like giving up on the world.

Did you not think Steve Jobs wanted to give up after his company basically left him on the side of the road--the company he had built and loved from his tiny garage? But he kept fighting because he knew what was right as he wanted to meet the needs of the people with his products, not the needs of the money everyone in his company wanted. Life without an iPhone, well those are days I would not like to remember.

There are doctors and researchers working every single day to find the cure to cancer--are you telling me that they don't want to give up? Every time they come across something that might work, it turns out to make matters worse, or just doesn't work at all. But do you think they give up? They know what they are doing may change the world one day, even if they won't be alive to see it.

Millions of people every day are giving up on what they are passionate. Instead of going to college to do what they love, they listen to their friends and family about how awful the job market is and how they need a degree that will ensure them of a career. Money and making others proud is more important, so they give up and they take the easy way out in this one life that God has given them.

We only have one life to live, so why not do something you are passionate about or work on something you believe in? Be the person who walks away from everything in their lives to do what you love. Be the person that proves every single person who doubted you wrong. Be the person that actually makes their idea a reality even though it was shot down a million times. Make life hard, but make it what you love because it is the only one you've got.

If you're unhappy about something, say it. If you don't like the way the world is, change it. Stand up and fight for what you believe in. This world is crumbling because everyone who is supposed to fight has given up.

If you fight we will follow behind you. You aren't the only one dreaming of changing the world, and I know as soon as it starts a domino effect will occur.

Stop yourself if you think you can't change the world. Why can't you? Why not you? I am so sad and tired of seeing these people with mindsets that the world is set and stone and can't change. Let's prove them wrong. Let's prove everyone wrong. The world can change because I see it happening. So if you want to make a contribution or change the world, don't let anything stop you.

If you want to say something, say it. If you want to do something, do it. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, or a rollercoaster of fun, but life is way too short not to do something you believe in. If you want to change the world, then simply do it and don't ever give up.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
