Why York, Maine Is The Best Vacation Spot
Visit York Maine

Whether it’s a beach near my house, a tropical vacation or an annual summer break trip, they all have an impact on me. Going to this vacation stop every summer since I was born has changed over the years, most importantly with my other brother who recently passed away.

The beach is somewhere you can go and let everything loose—feelings, emotions, thoughts, wonder almost anything. When I’m feeling down about something, going to the beach is always something that cheers me up. My favorite beach to go to is Long Sand Beach in York, Maine. The feeling of just being there is a feeling that I love because of the atmosphere. Getting off the exit and hitting the strip of stores such as Mrs. and Me, Anthony’s, Yummies and the Kittery Outlets and a bunch of my favorite restaurants brings a flood of memories.

In downtown York there are so many activities to do such as Yorks Wild Kingdom, Goldenrod Candy Shop, Funorama and so many other souvenir shops. Right along all of this is a short sandy beach with a playground and lots of areas around it for picnic events and family gatherings. The Nubble Lighthouse is also an amazing place; the ice cream up there is amazing and the view is even better. There are so many activities to do on the beach. My favorite and most important is surfing. Surfing is something that brings many people so much happiness. Beach games are also one of my favorite, whether its spike ball, Kubb, Four Square and so much more. They are all filled with happiness because they are played with loved ones and friends.

The thought of going to York every summer brings a smile to my face knowing I'll be surrounded by families that have gone for multiple years, many happy people and especially the thought of being with family in the happiest place on earth. The sound of the waves crashing, the Trolley ringing, picking people up to do tours or a trip downtown and the sound of family’s laughing and having an amazing time. Another activity I enjoy doing is jumping off the wiggly bridge when its high tide. It is always so much fun because it's mostly kids and some people can do tricks and it's fun to bring your friends there because it's something different.

This vacation spot has brought me so many amazing memories with my family and most importantly, my other brother. Memories on the beach, in the York Wild Kingdom, downtown and most importantly the family time we had together. When I go up there for the annual summer vacation, it makes me feel like he’s right there with me because of all the memories we had playing games, in the water whether it was boogie boarding, body surfing or jumping over waves. These all memories I cherish because he is no longer with me.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
