I woke up at 5 a.m., yet this time it wasn't for work. I never really understood jet lag until I woke up on the near-direct-opposite side of the world ready to run outside and conquer the world. I spent about 30 minutes watching Jeffree Star's YouTube videos until I realized I was literally in Japan, and I wanted to maximize my entire day.
After throwing myself into the shower, grabbing a cute outfit, and devouring breakfast in the apartment lobby, I was quickly on the streets of Yokosuka, Japan, soaking in as much of the city as I could. I would only expect myself to find both malls in Yokosuka, and I did just that so I could spend most of my time in the air conditioning.
I swear I was doing my absolute best to not be dramatic, and I was continuously telling myself that I would make it through the weather. I'm honestly not sure if I have ever looked so distraught from the climate, but with the temperature being 93 degrees and the humidity near 100%, I thought I was literally on the verge of melting.
I have noticed that most-everyone in Japan is usually holding umbrellas and hand towels due to the overwhelming heat. I must have missed the memo because I had never thought to bring a towel on my walk. Let's just say I now bring one everywhere I go.
As I dragged myself back to the hotel room, I knew I needed to lay down as the past seven hours felt like I had just run a marathon. As my body collapsed into bed, I quickly realized that jet lag would literally become the death of me as there was no chance at all I would be able to fall asleep.
With my eyes wide open, I played in bed and was praying the air conditioner would quickly catch up to me, as I really wanted to head out to the city again. In an hour or so, my dad walked into the room from work, asking if I wanted to spend the rest of the day in Yokohama—a larger city in Japan.
I have found that with nearly anything I do in Japan, I have a good time. Whether walking through the malls, being on a train or at the train station, experiencing Japanese cuisine, or walking with no direction at all, I have loved learning how things work in a different culture. Also, the fashion here is beyond enticing. I have become so obsessed with how much people value fashion here, and I wish I had more than 19 days to take it all in.
The night in Yokosuka was a lot of fun, and aside from taking trips to various parts of the area I am in, I have met a few people who I plan to hang out with on my stay here. As this quick blurb highlights my first two days in Japan, I cannot wait to see the opportunities I'll grasp within the next two weeks of being in this stunning country.
