Let’s just be real about one thing: I don't do yoga.
I've only done yoga once in my life and in the midst of doing so had a full on, gut wrenching laugh attack in the middle of the class because I couldn't do any of the poses. Being fully in touch with nature and my inner self is a beautiful sentiment, but I've always thought that it’s just not for me. With that being said, I decided to observe a yoga retreat at Resorts World Bimini to really determine if I could ever become a full-on yoga enthusiast.
I mean, what better way to find out if I like yoga than to observe a beach side yoga retreat in the beautiful, serene and picturesque Resorts World Bimini?
My yoga experience started, no surprise, on a Saturday morning at 6 when I woke up before the sun to do a boat ride meditation. In retrospect, however, this was hands down one of the greatest experiences I’ve had at Resorts World Bimini. Together with the other retreat participants, I watched the sun rise. We were encouraged to notice the nature around us and it was pretty incredible. As we watched the sun rise, we read beautifully vivid passages from sacred texts while soft music played in the background. After the boat ride, I got to spend a relaxing day exploring the resort as I have many times before. I can't lie though, the meditation we did in the morning really set the tone for the day and made it all the more relaxed. I spent part of my day at Luna Beach and found myself staring out into the ocean and feeling just a bit more connected to it - a truly harmonious moment I didn't think I'd ever authentically experience on a yoga retreat.
Next up was an afternoon yoga session by the pool. I watched as the participants did some impressive poses, breathing and stretching, but this time I stayed behind the camera where I belong.
While the afternoon yoga session was definitely not my thing, the sunset meditation hours later was magnificent. Overlooking the gorgeous Luna Beach at the Resort, we sat in a close circle and watched as the sun set. You could really feel the serenity and love in the circle of people meditating. It was the perfect way to end a full day on the beach.
I'm not going to say that one day of yoga has turned me into a devoted yogi, but I will say that after meditating with this group of people on the beautiful island of Bimini, I can see how powerful and transformative yoga can really be.
If you love yoga, or you're like me and want to observe and see if it's for you, Luna Beach at Resorts World Bimini is having monthly yoga retreats, like this one, where you can meditate and relax on probably one of the most relaxing islands in the Bahamas.
