At the beginning of the summer, I decided I needed to get back into working out. Being an athlete in high school but not working out in college, really set me back. So, I decided to try something new. I found a free 30-day yoga challenge and decided to try it. Being on day 28, here are some benefits I have discovered.
1. It calms you
Yoga is based on breathing techniques. During the 30 minute practice, the instructor emphasizes your focus on breath. Focusing on your breathing and doing different breathing techniques can help you to be calm by bringing more oxygen to the brain.
2. It has health benefits
In some of the practices, you do a lot of core strength and work. This can help with cramps or digestive issues. The yoga challenge I am doing is called "True," which is focusing on being true to yourself. It helps with figuring out things that are bothering you, letting go of things, finding happiness, etc. It has many mental health benefits.
3. You get a good workout
I didn't think that yoga would be such a strengthening workout. After the 30 day challenge though, I have become stronger and even lost weight! The practice starts off slow, just by getting you used to breathing and the flow of the positions. As the days go on, it gets harder and harder, and eventually leaves you sweating by the end of the practice. It works every single part of your body.
4. It's fun
I have really enjoyed learning new poses and building strength while doing it. On social media, you see a lot of pictures of people doing these cool poses, so when you finally learn them, its a great feeling!
Yoga has truly helped me get back into working out. After this 30 day challenge, I will still practice yoga and continue to learn more. This has been a great experience with great benefits!
