Many Mets fans recall Yoenis Cespedes as a main contributor to the team advancing to the 2015 World Series. After the 2015 season, Cespedes was listed as a free agent, he was offered several deals. The Mets' rivals, The Washington Nationals, offered Cespedes a five-year, $100 million deal.
Several fans were worried that Cespedes would not re-sign with the Mets, due to the fact that there was a deal made with an outfielder, Alejandro de Aza. Fans were also concerned that the Mets would only offer Cespedes a three-year deal. Fans assumed that like most baseball players, he would go to the team that offered him the largest amount of money and the most years.
However, Met fans were finally put at ease on Friday, Jan. 22. It turns out that Cespedes is not like Zack Greinke. Cespedes agreed to the three-year deal with the Mets, which includes an opt-out after the first year. Once the deal was official, the team posted this video on their Instagram. Now, let us take a look at the top Cespedes moments in the 2015 series (in no particular order).
The throw.
One does not run on Cespedes' arm, because you most likely will be tagged out. He proved that to Pittsburgh Pirate's Sean Rodriguez on August 15 and to Ramon Castro of the Chicago Cubs during the NLCS.
Sept. 9: NY Mets vs. Wash. Nationals.
Cespedes helped put the Mets in the lead against the Washington Nationals with his two-run shot. Which further helped them sweep the Nationals and win the division.
Game three of the NLDS against the Dodgers.
"And that ball is absolutely scorched to left. Three-run shot, and the Mets have blown it open."
In game three, the Mets were already up by four runs, however, Cespedes' home run gave the team enough room for error.
August 21: NY Mets vs. Colorado.
The game ended with a Met's win of 14 to 9, part of that could be due to the fact that Cespedes hit three home runs in the game.
There are just so many great moments the Met's have had in 2015, Cespedes was definitely a prime contributor to them. I think I speak for most Met fans when I say that the 2016 season should be filled with excitement and many more great moments.
