Nine times out of ten, when I tell someone I work at The Wild, I'm attacked with a million questions. Well let me tell you, if you have any questions about my workplace, I'm about to answer them.
I began working at The Wild Animal Park (located in Chittenango, NY) in 2015. It's open during the Summer, and not in the Winter. Chances are, you've probably been there. Hopefully you enjoyed it!
Anyways, the here goes:
1. "Do you get to play with the animals?"
First off, no. Nor, do I want to. Mostly because those animals are wild animals. As in, they could probably rip my face off in a second and have it as a snack along with my intestines and anything else that would be yummy to a large cat. Secondly, it is required that you have a license/ special papers allowing you to get close to these majestic animals. Me, being a newish college student, does not have those papers. What I do have, is Summers' free and a need to get out of my house.
2. "What do you do there?"
Well, it kind of depends on the day. Somedays, I cook food, others I sell merchandise. And very rarely, I am the smiling, happy face that you pay to enjoy this park (isn't that frightening?). Regardless of where I'm stationed, I'm accompanied by some pretty awesome staff-mates and a great boss/leader Jeffrey Taylor. Seriously, we as a unit, are awesome.
3. "What's your least favorite thing about working there?"
I mean, the smells are interesting. Have you ever smelled the living quarters of monkeys?
4. "What makes The Wild so special?"
I think our animals are very happy. They enjoy their lives and their enclosures. Also, back to the staff, we're stellar. And, even though we're a small zoo, it doesn't mean we aren't amazing. I truly believe that we are an outstanding facility.
If you are still questioning this park. Here are a few pictures I took of our animals.
