Yes (Wo)man

The word no should be moved to the end of your vocabulary.

Yes (Wo)man

I am in a current state of YES.

Two days ago, one of my best friends told me that she has decided to say yes to any request. There are conditions though; it can't hurt you or anyone else if you say yes, but rather, be a good experience and maybe make someone else's day. Once she told me this, I had to get in on that -- saying yes is as easy as saying no with one exception: you actually get something out of it. From there I have started the journey, the journey of taking every lemon life gives me and making a slushy.

So far it's been going pretty well. I attended a charity concert in a park called "Live for Life," which contributes to the Relay For Life foundation, and I went turkey hunting, all in the same day. Right when I got the invites I was naturally hesitant -- what else did I have to do and do I have the energy to actually get out of my apartment and go? Then I remembered: no matter what you are saying yes, and it was completely worth it. I know it's April but if anyone is still looking for a good new year's resolution look no further. There is quite possibly nothing better than going down the road less travelled.

Just imagine all of the things you have said no to during your life. Someone asks you to go get a cup of coffee but you don't really feel like it so you pass, and then the next day you come to find out at the coffee hut, that the person who asked you to go with them. won two free tickets to Music Midtown (just an example yet still applicable).

I think I speak for a lot of college students when I say those days where you just want to binge watch Netflix are a real struggle -- getting up to make pizza rolls can even be a challenge -- but the best thing to kick any slump in the rump is to get up, get out, and go for it. The last thing you want is to look back on your four, probably five years of college and say, "Yeah I had so much fun... watching seasons of Gossip Girls" (great show but you get the picture).

If you're still not convinced, remember this little saying: "It takes more muscles to frown than to smile." Now what does frowning and saying no have to do with each other? Well when you say no, others frown and when you say yes, they smile. So it's a win win.

Get out there and live people! It's time to let your freak flags fly and break out of that shell.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
