Yes, My Mom Is My Best Friend.
Huffington Post

My mom is my best friend.

I bet you're probably rolling your eyes at that just because you've heard it so many times but it is the honest to god truth. If a typical best friendship involves gossiping about all the newest drama, drooling over attractive men in movies, and laughing until you can't breathe, then my mom and I are most definitely best friends. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Whether it's a nail date or just a night on the couch, my mom and I are bound to have a great time. We just get each other. We know the other person's thoughts and can have a complete conversation but only use half the words... it's like we share the same DNA or something. Crazy.

She is always there for me, no matter what I need. If I need someone to comfort me when a boy is stupid or a friend has hurt me or a professor is just the worst ever, she is the one I turn to. If I need someone to go with me to the opening night of a movie or a concert that she doesn't really want to go to, I can always count on my mom. Need a shopping buddy? My mom and I are the perfect pair. We hate going shopping by ourselves because we don't have the other person to tell us how fabulous we look. And who else can I turn to when I'm going out of my mind trying to come up with great ideas for Odyssey articles or clever Instagram captions? She'll always make me feel popular and cool because if I've got a Snapchat up, you know she's the first person to screenshot it. Oh and you bet we've got a thousand favorite shows and movies that we watch together and obsess over. And when it comes to the plot of my own dramatic life, she knows every character and is waiting on the edge of her seat to find out what happens. She understands my every quirk and willingly puts up with them for whatever reason.

My mom is my constant support system and will do just about anything to help me reach my dreams, even if that means driving 6 hours in a blizzard to get me to an audition or seeing a show I'm performing in. She doesn't tell me I'm stupid for wanting to chase after what I'm passionate about, but she's not afraid to keep it real with me either. If I didn't have my best friend cheering me on, I don't know if I would have made it this far.

Some people might think that it's weird that my mom is also my best friend, but I don't really care. I'd rather have it that way than just know her as some lady who houses me and provides me with food and water. Because life is just more fun when hanging out with your mom means Ryan Gosling memes, Chipotle, Dunkin Donuts iced coffee, and a whole lot of laughter.

I love you, Mom. Thanks for being my best friend. I wouldn't trade you for the world.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
