My Dogs Are My Fur Babies

I hope you understand why.

There are some people who just don’t understand why some of us act as if our dogs are our babies, and that’s okay. Because they will never love an animal as much as that animal deserves. Yes, they can be aggravating when they have peed on the floor for the sixth time in two hours. Yes, they bark too much sometimes. No, we don’t have to change diapers. No, they can’t talk back to us. No, they aren’t a financial turnaround like actual human babies. We are not comparing birthed children to the pick of the litter. We know they are not the same.

But what we are saying is that these dogs make us so happy. They do the most ridiculous things: how they lay upside down, how they chase their tails, how they run and jump at the same time, and so on. They literally run and jump on us when we get home. It's hilarious how their whole butt wags when they are excited. You can’t help but smile when they perk their ears up and cock their head to the side.

Not only are they entertainment, but they are our protectors. Would you want to trespass into a house that a huge German Shephard that could pin you in the corner and genuinely frighten you? No, I didn’t think so. And if you train them right and spend time with them, they are the most loyal being you will ever have in your life. They are our life companions.

You also have a live in playmate. You want to throw the ball? The dog will go get it for you. You might have to wrestle with him to get the ball out of his mouth, but, hey, you can’t expect anything less. You’d be bored without having a 75-pound lump of fluff and drool sit on you because you are in their spot on the couch. You want to go for a run? Good, because you both need exercise from eating all of those pizza rolls.

What people don’t understand is that dogs hold so much love, and I’m sorry if you don’t get that. That is truly something you are missing out on. You are missing out on so much more than just a pet. They become part of the family. You find yourself rushing home after work because they need to be let outside. You miss out on the best cuddle buddy you could ever have. You miss out on the cutest pictures ever. You miss out on the funniest videos. You miss out on a one in a life time companion.

I’m sorry that you may not understand what it’s like to have a fur baby, because that is literally what they are to the right people. And I will not be sorry for loving my dogs so much. Just like a lot of other people, it’s not time for me to have kids yet. So in the meantime, I will enjoy loving my fur babies and taking hundreds of pictures of them to share with the whole world. And I hope that when your kids get older, that you let them have a puppy. It will teach the so many life lessons. It will teach them the kind of love some of us feel now. And maybe one day you will understand where those of us with the fur babies are coming from.

Our animals love us so much. We are the whole world to them. They would do anything we ask them to. All it takes is a little scratch behind the ears to make their entire day. What more could you ask for?

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
