You have class until three, then you go to work out. Make it to dinner late and eat fast to make it to the meeting across campus. Afterward, change to go out with your friends.
You wake up the next morning and realize you forgot about the paper due and you don’t have time to write it because you said you would volunteer that morning. For most college students, time always seems to get lost between Greek Life, sports, clubs, class, work, friends and of course finding time to eat. No matter what time or day, there is something going on that you want to do.
FOMO is a real thing. You are torn between getting good grades, going out with all your buddies and getting at least six hours of sleep on a regular basis. You are young and this is your time to have fun, but you are also paying a boat load of money to get an education, so want to do good in school.
For many, a college schedule can be overwhelming. It’s the first time you are responsible for yourself and now you have to make most of your decisions on your own. There is no one there to stop you from doing whatever you want. The added stress of grades on top of everything can become too much and the easiest solution is to say no.
No to the club that you are, only doing because it will add to your resume. No to going out on a Wednesday when you have homework to do. And no to that next episode of your latest Netflix binge that will be saved for when you are done with everything else. You can’t do everything and be everywhere all the time.
It is OK to miss the party every once in awhile. Saying no can be hard, especially to your friends or superiors, but your health is more important. It is your time to live it up and have fun, so there is time to say yes. Go out with friends, join the clubs you want, but remember that you don’t have to do everything. You can have fun, get good grades and sleep in college, just remember yes isn’t always best.
